I've been thinking about getting a 599 as my "daily driver". I don't drive much, mostly just taking my golf cart to the course, so I only put on about 4-5k miles a year. I'm wondering if anyone has jumped from a 355 to a 599. I realize they're completely different cars for different purposes, but I'm wondering if someone has made this change or has both and what they're thoughts for. Not so much a comparison as you really can't compare the two, just generalizations.

My current dd is a 2010 M3 and the lease is up in March, so I'm looking ahead. I love the M3, pretty much everything about it. I've had 2 and raced the first one for about 4 years and loved it too. Just looking for a change, so the 599 would be to replace the M3.

Errr... So would the 599 be replacing an M3 or a 355?
Frankly the M3 / 355 combination sounds about perfect, unless you're turning 60 soon.

At which point a front-engined Ferrari becomes acceptable.

Otherwise maybe swap the M3 for an M5 if you need a bit more room, and keep the 355.

Probably replace the M3. I'm waiting to see if I like the new M3 that will hopefully be out next year. I'm 36, so not quite to 60 yet lol. My body on the other hand, closer to 80.

The M5 is fun, but too big and I hate 4 doors.

.......... If you are in a position to buy or even consider a 599 as a daily drive then why even ask the question. 355 (or M3)to 599 is like T Model Ford to Mustang ! Take lots of pics of the 355 as you trade it in and thats it...599 here we come !!

Lol. No no the 355 stays. I'm not ready to let her go. The M3 is easy to replace and if the new 6 cylinder sucks i'll just go buy another v8 like I have now. In the meantime the 599 would take the place of the M3

I own a 355, and have driven the 599 and 2010 M3. The M3 and 599 are totally different and better performing than the 355. I think the 599 would make an incredible DD....but then I think the M3 would as well...in fact I considered it.

The shear power of the 599 is incredible to say the least...and solid as a rock.

Still, the 355 puts a huge grin on my face, everytime I drive it. :)

When you say rock solid are you referring to reliability? That's something I haven't found a ton of info on compared to the 355 I guess because its either really reliability or simply too new still

I own a 355 but also have quite a bit of time in a friends 599. In my opinion the 599 is very nearly the perfect daily driver Ferrari. Its easy to get in and out of, is happy in traffic and goes like stink! If you can have both in the herd, then its a no-brainer...saw a nice black on eBay for $149k just the other day too:)

I've been keeping a keen eye on ebay and that's what got me thinking about a 599 a little more seriously. I have read a bit about the transmission shifting a bit hard even under normal driving if you don't feather the throttle a bit and that could get annoying as a daily driver. My M3 has a DCT and shifts hard only when romping on it. Otherwise, it's nearly perfect. I really only have two complaints about it for being a daily driver. The road noise is a little bit annoying as it's not insulated that much to obviously save weight. So, the tires make it a bit loud in the cabin to hear the phone, radio, etc. Second is they didn't come out with bluetooth streaming audio until the following model year and I really like having that in my other cars for daily drivers.
