I'm not trying to bend the rule and, to be honest, I wasn't even talking about the race in my thread title if you read it correctly. It's a misunderstanding and I had to suffer the ban because of it. Whatever, I disagree and tought it was too harsh....users tend to agree, the mod doesn't...he's the boss, whatever, it's done now and it's fine.

Now, as for the site. The spoiler thing is a problem and it causes great debates and, as users here, we're making suggestions to try to improve this place and this community.

Because we're not web programmers, we make suggestions on whether or not "this or that" can be done and it's up to the guys who run this thing to tell us if they agree and/or if it's feasible or not from a programming/coding stanpoint.

People that have seen the race would love to be able to discuss it and make threads about it without having to wait 24-48 hours and people that haven't seen it would like to be able to log into Fchat and browse the homepage and various sections without the result flashing in their face.

Just trying to help, trying to contribute and throw out ideas, that's all. Just because something is a rule, doesn't mean it can't be improved.

    Oh, I definitely don't!

And I'm not "screwing around on a car forum" either - I open new tabs to get my other sport news etc.

Yes, I could change my homepage but if folk obey the rules there's no problem.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Dayum! Anyone can post and discuss anything about any race at any time - Just be sure the title itself isn't a spoiler! And if the post contains spoilers, say so. Done job.

    Fair enough.

I don't think "custom programming" is the solution though - The rule's been around forever and serves us well.

    Cheers,
    Ian

This should definitely be revisited, IMO. If you haven't watched the race in 2 days that's on you. Someone getting banned for posting about it a week later is crazy.

No it's not that hard but that doesn't mean that a few things could be tweaked like the above. 1st time offenders should get a warning too (like the OP, clearly the guy would respond to a warning...)

I hear you. However, I think it's more that "we" want consistency - It's a habit to get into that you just don't do it.

That's up to the mods. Mess with them at your own risk! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

While true, you must admit that anyone that saw that title prior to watching the race would have had their day ruined......

I know I climb out of my pram on this one, sorry about that - Just get in the habit of not putting spoilers in thread titles and life is good.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I also agree, don't put spoilers in the thread title. If a thread hasn't got ***SPOILERS*** written on it and someone clicks on it and then *****es about spoilers, **** off, don't come to the F1 section.

Just don't put it in the thread title, as you can see it by accident on the 'main' forum page. Simple as that.

    Thank you Bas!

Again, apologies for harping on, but the rule (and the mods control thereof) has served us, as an entire community, pretty well over the years.

    Cheers,
    Ian

That poor horse.....talk about being beaten!!!!

I must add, there should be a difference and a distinction by the mod using good judgement when issuing a ban.

There is a difference between someone with a clean record posting a thread in the F1 section for the first time that, depending on how you interpret it, might contain a spoiler and was done by obvious accident and someone who is just being a j3rkk on purpose posting a thread revealing the winner in the title just to stir it up and ruining it for everyone on purpose.

For me, I would have learned the lesson regardless of whether or not I would have been banned for 3 days. The punishment was useless and unecessary. Removing the thread and emailing telling me I had broken the rule and if it happened again I could face a ban would have been enough to scare me into making sure I'd never do it again. The whole banning thing made me feel like we were in kindergarden and was just plain silly. Can't people communicate before taking such drastic measures...come on?

Oh and one last question: Ian, Should we follow the rules? Should we put spoilers in the title? Just want to be clear on that....LOL! Just teasing...

I haven't agreed with 90% of what you have said up to now but your statements above are very relevant and constructive.

edit: PS: and have a Happy Birthday!

Sums it up in a nutshell ... if I've recorded races I watch them before reading the F1 section or watching the news ... .seems simple but there must be some mentally challenged folk out there

F1 is a profession for those who compete in it and an interest for anyone else. Some people haven't prioritized F1 over their other interests - like their family or a good nights sleep or lots of other things.

I agree that getting online is asking for trouble when you don't want to hear the results of a sporting event and it's simple enough to do. I mean, between Facebook, twitter, pop-ups, homepages filled with news, etc....

If you're busy at work, with family, obligations or asleep. It's pretty simple to not get online until you've had a chance to watch the event. The delay, at least for me, between the time I taped an event and then watch it is never more than a few hours.

Let's remember the name of this site: FERRARICHAT, which implies very clearly that we're here to CHAT about FERRARI. F1 is a big part if not the biggest part of Ferrari so why would you get on a site called "Ferrari Chat" when you don't want to hear the results of a F1 Ferrari race???? Seems incredibly silly to me....

I don't have time to watch all the sports I love and I don't care about not watching it live so I tape EVERYTHING (Football, Soccer, Hockey, F1) I'm sometimes able to watch a 4 hour football broadcast in 45 minutes which saves an insane amount of time. I avoid getting on the net until I'm done watching it.

Other than the fact the founder of the website hates the spoiler rule. 'Nuff said, IMO.

I have always had that opinion though. My opinion, the spoiler rule, and every time we repoll the membership has been the same for 10 years.
