My prediction next season is Mclaren will have the fastest car followed closely by Ferrari, and then Red Bull who will fight for 3rd against Mercedes. The Mclaren this year should have been the WCC title winner with Hamilton winning another WDC, but Mclaren had some terrible circumstances all season which really killed their chances. How many times did Maldonado ruin Hamilton's race? Or Hulkenburg's recent nonsense. And how many failed boxes or other reliability issues while leading a race. It's stuff like that which hosed mp4-27. Mclaren will continue the trend they started at the beginning of the year. I would not in the least bit be surprised it Mercedes were right up there with them though.

Those GP2 cars are faster than f1 cars of just 15 years ago. That puts a different perspective on things doesn't it

Oh, c'mon. Give it a go.

I'm betting that MB won't be getting better than 4th. I'm even curious/tempted to bet they won't even get better than 5th.

And who knows, maybe even Sauber/Hulk will pass them for 5th.

    -1

    My prediction:
    1 the cans, 2 Ferrari, 3 McClonk, 4 Lotus, 5 MB

Not very creative I realize, but I see no reason for why things should change for next year. 2014 all bets will be off.

Thanks to Magnetti Marelli and some creative FIA ruling (and lots of luck, talent and determination on Alonso's side) this year wasn't really a run away train. But it sure felt like one: The various winners gave the false impression there were several drivers gunning for the WDC but the reality was that there only were the usual couple. From that perspective it was the 2011 season wash/rinse/repeat.

And yes, I definitely want somebody else to win the WDC next year:

Hahaha yes perfectly put, I agree, the end result was, the RB guys just came right bang on form when it mattered most, Alonso did amazingly well to keep himself in the hunt, the Mclaren boys were missing a angry Ron Dennis breathing fire into them, getting things right.

Not at all like 2011, just the end result was the same. Red Bull's car was oy the fastest qualifier at the last third of the season and RB8 still didn't have quickest race pace, that honor goes to Mclaren who far more regularly had quicker race pace and equal or greater qualy pace. Mclaren was the car this year just as I said they were when it was first unveiled. Red Bull simply had fewer unfortunate circumstances come their way. Mclaren hands down 2013, and it should have been 2012. Oh well.

At least you're putting 'em ahead of Fauxtus next year! That would be progress. ;)

However, to do so, they've gotta score ~ twice as many points as this year - Doable, but not a gimme by any means......

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yeah... I guess there's still some kool aid in the bloodstream. I do think AMG have to deliver an improvement or heads will roll and Lewis will just add fuel to that fire.

Apparently Ross had to make a case to the MB board to continue the F1 effort. Lewis was a big part of what convinced them but there were assurances about design changes as well.

I'm not going to bet with anyone, but what I will do is get a giant stone tablet and scribe ready for the engraved apology the growing list of people are going to owe Ross Brawn when this is all over. Granite ok with everyone?

I doubt people aren't taking Brawn seriously. I think we all do.

It is the 10 ton boat anchor from MB around his neck that keeps him from flying.

Heh, hard to bet against Red Bull if the rules aren't going to change. I took a shot betting against Vettel in 2012 because I thought the lack of EBD would hurt Red Bull and I didn't forsee Ferrari coming up with such a turd.

I just don't see Daimler as a boat anchor really, not nowadays with all that other teams go through as well. I work for a massive corporate entity, 5th largest insurance carrier in the world actually. When I need to settle something for $4-5m there is no corporate process, but rather it's a meeting to discuss the case and the hammer is dropped right then and there. 'Corporate' doesn't want to be involved if the case is below a million, the keys to the kingdom are right here in my office for that stuff. I suspect the same is with Brawn's relationship and Daimler especially considering the stupidly low expenditure required to keep the team going. I suspect Daimler's board simply want reports on how the team is doing and because they know nothing about F1, I can't imagine they would be so arrogant as to suggest how to run the team. If F1 meant billions $$ in revenue that would be a different story, no, this is about winning races so why would a board muck about with such managemnet. It's like trying a case that requires expert witnesses, don't speak for the expert, let them do that on their own.

Red Bull were not the fastest car, Mclaren was. Poor Macca just got beaten around too much this season being kicked off the track or losing 'boxes, but it was a far more consistently fast car. Point is, Mclaren have the upper hand starting 2013.

Ferrari OTOH had a very important decision to make last summer, whether to further develop F2012 to F2013 or come up with a clean sheet. If they do a clean sheet approach I believe they will be hampered at the start of 2013, if they continue F2012 they face its lingering occasional qualifying issues. F2012 itself needed a slightly longer wheelbase and more contoured sidepods, but the reason Ferrari could not further contour the sidepods was simply due to its internal radiator situation which was a very old style vertical system rather than the canted forward design. The vertical system requires a more specific type of internal venting which were cause for the bulky sidepods on F2012.

I think from Monza on, the Red Bull was the fastest. Over all, you're right, Mclaren was probably faster, but I think Red Bull closed out the year the strongest.

McLaren's driver lineup is easily the weakest of the major teams though, I don't think they'll win either title next year...
