I frequent the Supercar Sunday and it seems the last few I'd see fairly late
model ferraris with some paint change (like on the 458 Italia painting the horizontal "barrel" of the taillight black) to make their car more individualized. Back when i owned a C4 I remember how scandalized everyone was when one owner blacked out the chrome on his car--the Ferrari owners as a whole didn't individually customize their cars like Pantera owners do, so much so that you are hard put to find an unmodified Pantera.

So what happened? Has the attitude changed and now owners are changing the trim here and there , adding words to the side, different stripes, etc.? Or is this just a SoCal thing...?

Exotics are being modified all the time, all over the world. I see that in areas like the middle east and Southern California, there are so many exotics floating around that merely having a yellow Ferrari is not enough to stand out. That is when people turn to aftermarket tuners.

See offerings from Mansory, Gemballa, Hamann, and others.

Most of these tuners offer programs for luxury and exotic cars that total or exceed the cost of the new car itself.

If you would like to see more examples of tuned exotics around the world I can post some more links. Just ask.

The factory has realized that clients want "personalization," and will pay dearly for it. I think it's great, a small step back towards the days of coachbuilders.

Unfortunetely the real coachbuilders are fading away, Pininfarina for one. Quite sad. These other companies are no coachbuilders, they are just after markets parts companies.

At least we have P 4/5 for our generation.
