What is wrong with running a 235 vs. OEM 225 up at the front? I was thinking to try them on a set of Challenge Wheels.

    Front: 235/40ZR18 (95Y)

    Rear: 265/40ZR18 (101Y)

    Ciao,

    SRR

Probably nothing, but a lot of people run wider than that in the rear. Stock challenge tire sizes were 235 front and 295 rear...

I would not read too much into these times. It's so hard to compare or analyze these times because there are so many variables.
Manufactures are spending thousands of dollars (euros, yen) to make their car look the fastest. They are using professional drivers with years of experience on the ring and with so much pressure to post a low time, I have no doubt the car is being set up for optimal times. 99% of the drivers could never get close to that time including myself.
I don't pay attention to those times.

I do find the RR sport time entertaining. Range Rover should put two screaming kids in car seats, a truck full of groceries, make them text on a cell phone and hold a coffee in one hand to make the lap time seem realistic.

I'm not disagreeing, but a lot of cars on that list already have significantly newer technology in their suspensions, brakes and tires. Also, I did not imply modifying the 355 suspension per se, just optimizing the stock setup for the track. Basically, I'm just saying a 355 with upgraded tires, brake pads and factory adjusted suspension would even the playing field for our cars. And as a result, it would outperform more cars on that list on a track that have newer technology. For example, with a newer setup, I highly doubt a 4000 pound e60 m5 could keep up with our cars on a track even if it had a slightly better tire. The 355 time quoted on that list is based on tire technology and brake pads that could be far more improved upon than say, a 2003 porsche 911, since the porsche is only 10 years old while the 355 tested here was 20 years old.

It would be great to have the 2009 SR8; dispense with the lowly Ferraris, Vipers, Porsches, etc.

I don't understand, why everybody is talking about tires - sure there is some hugh improvement, I would estimate something betwenn 8 to 12 seconds, but some other factors are never mentioned. The Nordschleife was in quite bad condition 20 years ago, not comparable with the track today ...

F355 GTB was at 8:13. This was with the manual transmission. I wonder how much faster the a 355 F1 would be? I also own a 2009 C63 AMG with paddle shifters that has the same 8:13 time.

    Ha, I did a 10+ lap with a 20year old 348!
Even got passed by a swift (on slicks though)... Never the less I had a blast!

Keep up racing them old ferrarie's!
    Regards Ben
