This is a bit outside of Chicago, but I spent the weekend in Santa Monica. On my Saturday afternoon drive up to Malibu and back I saw the following: Black Ferrari 599 Red Ferrari 430 Scud Red Ferrari 360 Silver Ferrari 458 Baby blue Ferrari California Dark blue Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe Silver Bentley Mulsane Black Bentley Continental GT Speed Black Bentley Continental GT convertible Black Fisker Karma A couple Tesla Ss and too many Porsche 911s to count Mind that this was just on a 30 mile round trip on the PCH. Wish I had my car instead of the Hyundai rental. Whomp. Whomp.
The Tatra is the skeleton shot. I forgot the details but it was from around 1940. Funny nobody picked up on the Delage. That is quite possibly the most rare and most valuable car ever spotted in Chicagoland. Makes a Ferrari or Lambo look like pocket change.
I was going to say something about it but I don't see the pic - is that the interior shot? Any pic of the exterior?
Webby! Spotted you Saturday afternoon around Rush/Oak area. Snakecharmer plated Phantom Coupe on Rush, and then a yellow w/black roof 911 turbo with what looked like a techart body kit - no wing.
I'll post an exterior shot tomorrow. This is a 5 million $ car, only a small handful left of them worldwide.
If it is the same delage I've seen, you could be an "investor" in the restoration. investor group to fund the resto, then share in possible profits. How's david's new space?
The interior shot was of the Tatra. Here an exterior shot of the Delage. Notice the wood holding up the bodywork. And a B/W foto in which I believe the car from Bern is the type the Tatra will be (to answer absent's question). As a Swiss I got a kick out of that shot. All that's missing is my grand parents' car somewhere in there. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Expected sales price when complete. This is insanely time consuming and labor intensive. Dave gave us a presentation: Since they have to replace all the (rotten) wood, they basically take the entire car apart. Problem is, that originally, the builders attached panels onto the wooden frame. Now they do the opposite but without the wooden frame. So they have to fabricate computer models of what the wooden frame was once and then build it hoping the original panels fit. If not, go back to square 1. Also body parts that are missing or need to be replaced require the manual from the ground up process of fabrication. The only thing they got going for them at this point is their posession of an almost identical sister car in France which helps them in figuring what goes where etc. Dave's presentation was absolutely fascinating. And I was thinking to myself "I want this guy's job!". Doing the research and detective work for this project, putting it all together etc., that's just a dream come true. I envy the guy and applaud him for being in that position (which I'm sure didn't just happen). I'm not an investor (I wish!) but definitely a fan by now.
