I was thinking about organizing some kind of car show to benefit the families of the victims.

I was thinking a price could be payed to enter your car in the show. Admission would be free or a low price, and then tickets could be raffled off to get a ride in some of the cars, similar to the Ferrari and Friends Show in West Hartford.

All of the money raised would go to Newtown Youth and Family Services to help the families of the victims pay for funerals etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts or interest in this idea?

Let me just say quickly that the money will go to the United Way of Western Connecticut, not Newtown Youth and Family Services. NYFS is asking people to donate to the United Way.

There is one being planned through a local Honda forum. Meeting in New Britain, then cruising down to New Haven. It's at Treadwell park. News 12 should be covering it.

If I can provide any information to help you with this feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I organized the Ferrari & Friends event. There are a lot of hoops to jump through when organizing a large show!

Just want to give everyone a heads up if your "planning" something, the people and town affected by the shooting has asked that no events be held within Newtown. Families are asking this because they do not want any further media attention, interviews etc. and they also fear that whats left after any "events" the town will be left to clean up after. They ask that donations, cards, and snowflakes be sent through the mail to them, and that the town be left alone for the time being so they can mourn in peace.

This is a very abridged version of a message sent out to a local group near me which had plans of caravaning 100's of cars down to Newtown CT for a car show.

Oh, I can tell you now or the immediate future is not a good time for a car show or any events.
I've been in Sandy Hook 3 times since the day. I was there yesterday to make the walk to the firehouse where the school is. 20 Christmas tree for each....tens of thousands of flowers teddy bears, candles etc.
It is not a town for anything.... except mourning. You can not drive through there without tears. Each time I went I would a funeral procession.....heartbreak seeing a short casket.
