An interesting observation from a police officers perspective. I personally agree the police should be well armed, they have to deal with the crooks who will get guns no matter what the laws are.
But perhaps someone on the pro guns side could explain the relative position of the USA and the UK in the list wrxmike posted. Iirc most police in the UK are not armed, the stats somewhat fly in the face of the cops need guns theory.

Oh, and before someone responds with the argument that the victim would also be entitled to be armed, is it really advisable to have two civilians engaged in a shooting in such a situation??? I can see a lot of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. It's insanity.

Gun Disease

 

The shootings had nothing to do with guns!! It had to do with a current sick society propagated by a bunch of politicians with an agenda. As a Doc for many years there is no longer a medical establishment to house and care for the psychologically unstable in the USA as that ended in the 60'sby the politically correct of the time!! As such they are either ware housed in unsuspecting neighborhoods and baker acted via ER's then out on the streets in 72 hours. An incident just happened in our small town in Fl whereby a problematic mentally ill person greeted an unsuspecting 25 yr old young women who was there to help him. He took a 12 inch bladed knife and chased her down the street as she screamed for help. No one helped her and when he caught her he butchered her in a neighbors yard. No one had a gun to assist and she DIED on the yard. All watched unarmed afraid for their own safety. A gun owner would have aided. This incident hardly made the local news

That bit I do not understand. The concept of Australians EVER needing to rise up against their own government is just completely impossible to conceive. By this I mean we are not that fncked up, and I didn't think America was either.

"I am giving my passport back to you and my social security entitlement. We no longer belong to the same country. I am a true European, a citizen of the world.

"Unfortunately, there is nothing left for me here, but I will continue to love the French and these audiences with whom I have shared such emotions. I am leaving because you consider that success, creation, talent, in fact anything that is different, should be penalised."

His letter raised the stakes in a debate over the departure of a series of French celebrities after Mr Hollande's election in May.

Depardieu wrote: "I don't ask for approval but I could at least have respect.

"I have never killed anyone, I don't think I've been unworthy, I've paid E145 million in taxes over the past 45 years and I employ 80 people in (my) companies."

The actor said he would pay 85 per cent of his earnings to the French Inland Revenue in this year. France levies a wealth tax, under which he must pay to the government 1.8 per cent of the value of his assets, estimated at about E120m ($149m).

Mr Hollande is also introducing a 75 per cent income tax rate on revenue over E1m a year, so there would be little prospect of Depardieu's bill diminishing if he stayed in France.

Instead, he is selling his 20-room mansion in central Paris for an estimated E50m and moving into a drab home in Nechin.

French Employment Minister Michel Sapin said the letter was a sign of "personal decline".

Depardieu's letter concluded with a flourish worthy of The Count of Monte Cristo, the Alexandre Dumas novel in which he starred when it was turned into a movie. "Despite my excesses, my appetite, my love of life, I am a free being, Monsieur, and I am going to remain polite."
