Yes Schramsberg is the official toasting champagne of the US since Nixon presented and drank some with Chairman Mao of China back in the old days. Very good stuff too.

Our house wine is Moet Imperial, I preferred White Star which they are no longer making. Imperial I feel is a bit less flowery than White Star, however we drink a ton of it!

Thanks. Yes, I know enough about champagne to know about the blending, etc., it just floors me to think that Veuve would change their desired taste. That yeast/bread flavor was its trademark, and I thought the same since the beginning. In fact after proposing to my wife, I ordered Veuve since I thought it would always be the same, and we could count on that in remembering the moment. Why do the marketing types always want everything vanilla?

It seems like the large houses all felt compelled to change their signature style a few years back, I don't know why. I agree that the yeast in the Veuve has changed. When Jouet came on the scene strong that's when everyone flipped out.

if you like those White Star, you should try the Schramsberg blanc de noirs. Excellent for less than $40.

For something really cheap and quite drinkable - Cook's California champagne.
