I have an 86 tr , and had the Same thoughts in 2007 - for me, the 308 carb was the choice. I found the 328 to similar interior wise like the Testarossa, coupled with the FI for both cars. The carb 308 gave me enough of a difference, as did the 70s interior. Click on my garage for some pics.
    Good luck !

'87 as well. But year doesn't really matter as much as what YOU want and the documented history and condition of the car you're looking at. They are all Ferraris, with all the pros and cons that go with them.

They are all going to be similar in a lot of ways. Personally, I could not be much happier than I am with my 85QV. When I am home I use it as my daily driver as much as I can, weather permitting.

Admittedly, I have no experience with a 328, but really it comes down to what you want to do with the car.

Not true! the 87's (even those with 12/86 build dates had a special Papal blessing and Giovanni the exhaust tuner was in his prime that year! That's what convinced my to get an 87 GTS...about to turn 60k on the clock and pulling like a Clydesdale (well 265 of them really).

FWIW, I drove from Phoenix to San Diego to look at that particular car at Cavallo Motorsports this summer. (good excuse to escape the AZ summer heat for a few days.) The dash has been horribly modified to fit an over-the-top modern stereo system. I'm not fundamentally opposed to mods although I'm sort of a purist. But this was BAD - it was a complete turn off for me. On the positive side, the dealer was very forthcoming and had done a very complete major service on the car. I ended up buying an "unmolested" 308 QV that happened to be local, instead, and I'm completely thrilled with it. IMHO, there are nicer cars out there for the money than this one.

I looked at the car pretty closely and, while I cannot be 100% certain, the boxer trim did not appear to be original.

I'll be very interested in hearing your impressions on driving/owning a TR and 308/328. The TR and 328 are at the top of the my list for first Ferrari to buy. Thanks. Ray

I was suspicious about the color combo. I like it ... but if it was not original, I am not interested. My TR can win awards for having perfect interior and anything less than that will not be acceptable at my end.

The dealer is reputable and I happen to know the owner. We have done many drives together as well as Vegas runs. He does not know that I am looking at 308 or 328 as of yet so I do appreciate the heads up.

    Thanks

    Haig

Don't ask what got into me to be looking at 308 or 328. I guess it was the styling of being an original. I will keep you posted of my liking. Regardless of them being different, I am not looking to compare as I think they both will be fun to own.

    I'm biased so I would suggest an '88 328.

Last year for Enzo oversight and the last year for the concave wheels.

Yes, others will tout the '88 and 1/2 and '89 cars with reworked suspension but I really dislike the convex wheels.

Best of luck in your search.

I prefer the concave wheels as well. I have a late 87.

My first 328 was silver/black; I appreciated for its more understated yet flattering non-red color.

To OP, I've owned both 308 QV and 328. I prefer how the 328s drive and better built they are.

Obviously totally subjective, but a carb car was a must-have for me. I have a nice, modern V8 in my garage already. I really wanted a great sounding carbed Ferrari at the right price point. Gives me something to play with and it's obsolete technology that we will never see again from Ferrari. I personally prefer the simpler looks and styling of the 308 to the 328, but they are both great cars.

    What he said.

And I would vote for silver, if you can find one. An underappreciated color that really works on 328s.

Would think that last generation of the 3 series would be the best: more grunt in the bigger engine and the rest of the little bugs worked out.

However, the 328 rims, interior and bumpers don't quite do it for me, so my pick would have to be a late production # '85QV, black/tan Euro GTB.....since we are wishing - LOL

    I believe I agree. :D

I wanted a QV because they don't require as much tinkering. BTDT with multi-carb cars and my back appreciates fuel injection. Also wanted a Euro GTB because, well, they look better...and drive better. Be warned though, there are damn few Euro GTBs of any year in the US, let alone QVs. I looked semi-seriously for two years, then jumped literally within 15 minutes of getting a tip on one in Dallas. I love my car, totally worth the wait.

I agree with this. None of the cars will be fast, but the 328 with the concave wheels is the best variant IMHO. I happen to like it best in non-red, in order to better appreciate the curves.

(of course, now I don't have those concave wheels on the car :))

The funny thing is that, as for myself, I prefer the convex wheels on the 328; this is lucky indeed, considering that I have a "B" and a "S", both '89 produced cars, so with convex wheels...
Don't ask me why, 'cos I don't know, but somehow, visually, I always think that concave wheels go better with the sharper design of the 308, and that convex wheels are better harmonised with the more bulbous bumpers of the 328.
    But it is just me...

    Regards

2v injected GTS or GTB. Hear me out. Get into one for short cash, dump the Yugo fuel injection and Marelli digiplex ignition systems in favor of a clean Electromotive TecGT inclusive EFI system. This more than makes up for the power difference from the carb cars to the QVs, and the setup cost will still probably have a person below a nice early carb car or nice QV.

A '81 2vi car I know of in Las Vegas recently dyno'd 197bhp at the rear wheels with such an arrangement. That said, I know of very few 308s, carb or QV which dyno north of 195bhp at the wheels, most are strong at 190.
