Local Hershey PA brewer of note Troegs now have the Xmas "MAD ELF" at 11 % alcohol there's a two beer limit. Troeg's does a very nice job.

Beck's Dark caught my eye at the store tonight. Recently I heard a radio guy complaining about Beck's after he noticed the taste had changed and he then discovered it is now brewed in St. Louis! So much for being an import.

Gouden Carolus Noël 2009; dark fruits, toffee, spicy, even balanced complexity. clean finish with no aftertaste.

Noël Des Géants - sprightly, refreshing, easy drinking; fruity bouquet; notes of fruits, ginger, spices and toast

La Rullés Cuvée Meilleurs Voeux - a well rounded, similar to a pale ale; notes of malt, bread, banana and spices

Olivers Panzer Division Destroyed - strong toffee, balanced smokey, malty with notes of licorice and fig.

To Øl Snowball Saison Ale - similar to a double hop with beautiful crispness; notes of straw, grass, spices, hops, and grapefruits

Ridgeway Reindeer Droppings - Hoppy but easy drinking; notes of fruits, citrus and malts with a slow bitter and light body

De Ranke Père Noël - lovely earthy hoppiness with that bit of licorice finish; notes of fruits and herbs

Enghien Noël Triple Blonde - full bouquet Belgian triplel. Beautiful complexity; notes of fruits, grass, toasted malts and spices.

Mikkeller Fra Til Via (From To Via) - chocolate, mocha with balanced licorice and anise notes alongside roasted malts and smoke.

Two Women by New Glarus brewery today and it was quite a boring Lager. It tasted just like a domestic Miller Light so it was a little disappointing.

Well, Brian, this is what I have to say: If you've got a New Year's Eve party coming up, dont be afraid to knock back a cold one. Beer has several surprising health benefits.

Despite beers bad reputation, it actually has a number of natural antioxidants and vitamins that can help prevent heart disease and even rebuild muscle. It also has one of the highest energy contents of any food or drink. Of course, this means you need to set limits one beer gets you going, four makes you fat.

If youre worried about dehydration, keep in mind that beer is 93 percent water. Also, according to a Spanish study, beer may actually provide better hydration than H2O alone when youre sweating it out under the sun.

So with all of this in mind, which kind of beer should you reach for? Calorie-wise, you may be tempted to grab a light lager, but for health benefits, a dark beer is the better choice.

Dark beers tend to have the most antioxidants, which help reverse cellular damage that occurs naturally in the body. A recent study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture has also found that dark beer has higher iron content compared to lighter beers. Remember, iron is an essential mineral that our bodies need. Iron is a part of all cells and does many jobs including carrying oxygen from our lungs throughout the rest of our bodies.

Another good choice is microbrews, which are healthier than mass-produced cans, because they have more hops. Hops contain polyphenols, which help lower cholesterol, fight cancer and kill viruses.

Just remember the golden rule: Everything in moderation. You dont want to embarrass yourself in front of your friends by drinking too much, and you certainly dont want to put yourself at risk for any long-term health effects like liver problems, kidney diseases and heart disease.

I just spent a little time reading parts of this thread and wow am I thirsting now.

The most recent beer that I picked up was Stone 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale. It was different from what I normally drink but good.

My two go to beers that I get when I am not feeling adventurous are Short's Huma-Lupa-Licious and Bell's Two Heated Ale, and they are both Michigan beers so that a plus.

With Black Crown, Budweiser Aims to Refresh the Brand

In the four years since the $52 billion transatlantic merger that created Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), most of the Leuven (Belgium)-based brewer’s efforts have been focused on selling assets, cutting costs, and paying down debt. Lately the world’s largest brewmeister is turning its attention to something its customers can relate to—the beer itself. In 2012, AB InBev sparked growth with new beers, including Bud Light Platinum, an upscale cousin that costs 35 percent more than America’s No. 1 beer, and the Mexican-inspired Bud Light Lime-A-Rita. Next on tap: On Jan. 21, Budweiser will introduce U.S. drinkers to Black Crown, a new take on the iconic Bud, America’s most popular regular brew. “When we bought AB, our focus was much more on deleveraging,” says AB InBev Chief Marketing Officer Miguel Patricio. “This is behind us. Now we’re focusing on what we’ve been seeding” in new products.

Black Crown, with more alcohol and a stronger hops taste than classic Bud, is the latest example of the brewer’s push to reinvigorate its core brands. The drink, chosen from among 12 experimental varieties submitted by head beermakers at each of Budweiser’s U.S. breweries and made from the original Bud yeast, prevailed in taste tests of 25,000 consumers last year. Attention-grabbing drinks are becoming more important for brewers facing competition from craft beers, which are growing faster in the U.S. than big-name brands. “Black Crown’s bringing Bud to a more sophisticated crowd and occasion,” Patricio says.

The brand could use the help. Sales of Budweiser to U.S. retailers fell 6 percent by volume in the nine months through September. Keeping Bud strong at home is key, as AB InBev wants to expand it globally. Bud Light Platinum, a higher-strength beer in a blue bottle, and margarita-flavored Lime-A-Rita helped add about 0.75 of a percentage point to Bud Light’s 21.5 percent share of the U.S. market in the third quarter of 2012, AB InBev estimates.

It’s not all new brews, either. Budweiser is using packaging and marketing promotions to draw buzz to older brands. Consumers can send a Facebook (FB) friend a video of a glamorous blonde delivering a chalice of Stella Artois directly to their home, integrating a picture of it into the video using Google’s (GOOG) Street View service. AB InBev is also tweaking its containers more frequently. It used a red-and-gold dragon-patterned Bud bottle in China to celebrate Chinese New Year; in Brazil the entire lid of the brewer’s Brahma beer can be peeled off to create a ready-made mug. This year the company will introduce a new Bud can with a distinctive waistline shape in the U.S. “We’re feeding this funnel of innovation constantly,” Patricio says.

The brewer, known for its adept cost cutting, is not reducing sales and marketing spending, which climbed 7.7 percent in the first nine months of 2012, after rising 4.1 percent a year earlier. AB InBev’s profit margin is wider than those of rivals SABMiller (SAB), Carlsberg (CABGY), and Heineken (HEIA), so it can afford to spend. Still, profit in 2012 was hurt by higher distribution and administrative costs in the U.S. as the brewer struggled to meet demand for Platinum and Lime-A-Rita. Patricio isn’t exactly crying in his beer. “I wish we had that problem everywhere,” he explains, “of having innovation be so successful.”

Budweiser_Unveils_Its_Super_Bowl_Ad_Lineup

Budweiser Black Crown will make its national television debut in a spot fit for a king.

The new Budweiser brand extension from Anheuser-Busch InBev will be appearing in the highly coveted "A1" spot in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, Feb. 3, making it the first commercial to air following kickoff.

The first commercial viewers will see is "Coronation," a thirty-second spot for Budweiser Black Crown directed by Samuel Bayer of Serial Pictures, who also directed Chrysler's Emmy-winning "Born of Fire" ad for the 2011 Super Bowl. The prime "A1" placement is a spot Anheuser-Busch has held since 1987.

"It's unique in that you never really have an event where the consumers are tuning in to watch the commercials," said Paul Chibe, vice president of U.S marketing at Anheuser-Busch InBev. "People are watching and waiting and anticipating the new (ads) that are coming on air. To use that position for a new launch gives us the opportunity to take that moment and have them become instantly aware of our new product, our new brand."

Budweiser Black Crown will reappear later in the game with another thirty-second spot called "Celebration."...

Just finishing the first one and I like it. As posted before I don't have a sophisticated tongue so I can't give a detailed review but it is so far a "thumbs up".
