What is really amusing here is that the Daytona owners are also bemoaning that Daytonas are unloved. The market decides and the market is not always right, but controls. I bought a 512BB because I thought they were good value and it proved to be a great car. Dino on steroids. I kept my Dino because I have had it 30 years and could not bear to part with it, just wish it had more grunt. Don't hanker for a Daytona, wouldn't swap the 512 for one but would buy one for 512 money. Now would you rather have a Shelby Cobra or one of each of the others? Don't you love a free market.
The color on this car is fantastic. It's been for sale for some time now. It looks like a lot of little things have been changed over the years, but I REALLY like this car.
Being new to the Ferrari world, and having been a Porsche guy for a long time, can anyone tell me what the needs of the RPM blue 512BB are? What is the condition of the vehicle? Has anyone gone to see it in person? Thanks.
That particular BB looks very nice. The only items that I see which are non original are the side view mirrors and the steering wheel, both cosmetic. They're easy to replace and wouldn't detract from the enjoyment by any means. In fact, those are items I had to change back when I purchased mine. Their shop seems to enjoy a pretty good reputation as well.
So I went out to RPM in VT to check out their 512BB. Impressive shop and it was a pleasure meeting Steve & Peter. We put the BB up on a lift and spent the majority of the afternoon going over it. While I initially had my doubts, the more I dug in the more comfortable I became with the car. Bottom line, we worked out a deal. Now it's going to seem like forever until spring arrives!
Nice.Very nice. I poked around that car some time back, agree it was beautiful, nicely done and the paint color is fabulous enough to make me occasionally fantasize about having my black car changed. Are you getting any service, upgrades done during your wait? You might need to make a couple trips back to RPM before spring!
....get set...GO Seems most available carbed boxers finding new homes? Is this the dawning of the general realization of what these cars really are..or simply us talking to ourselves??
Yes, I'll have them replace the H rated tires with a proper set of V rated XWX's, and attend to a couple other minor items.
Good call!!! I love the color, I can only imagine how it looks up close. Is yours the same as the BB they have on the dyno in the YouTube video?
Congratulations! I looked at that car over the summer and found it to be an exceptionally tight driving car. I loved how low to the ground it was and the color is beautiful. I think rpm has taken very good care of it as it was quasi their personal car as well. I think a lot of major maintenance and sorting has been done too, which is nice. That youtube video is this car. Enjoy! I do think carb boxers in the US are selling. In europe the asking prices are too high.
Here's one. http://continentalautosports.com/inventory/details.aspx?id=NLIL0091.1/8730&y=1984&d=Ferrari&m=BB512&tr= No affiliation. Joe
If you are interested in that pretty boxer you should contact Lonnie tang @ continental. He has been in the business a long time and would give you a very honest and accurate account. I bought a car sight unseen from Lonnie years ago. It was as described!! PCB
If you are seriously interested, Continental AutoSports is an hour from me. I'd be more than happy to drive in and look it over for you. Joe
Personally, I really wanted a carburated car. Ideal would have been a nice original, low miles black/tan BB. There is very little around in BB's at the moment, but there seems to be three pretty nice black BBi's available. Go figure? They made almost as many BB's as BBi's (900+ vs 1,000+) Continental Autosports, IL: Black BBi http://continentalautosports.com/inventory/details.aspx?id=NLIL0091.1/8730&y=1984&d=Ferrari&m=BB512&tr= Florida car: Black BBi http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388922 Harold Javetz car, GA: Black BBi http://www.ronsusser.com/inventory.htm?id=2468
