All you need is the paint codes which are widely available. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
I was just chatting with him at the minute, so I feel I can explain without stealing his post. He has bought a carbed 308 GTB of 1978, which, today, is painted a "dark blue"; there is no paint label anywhere on the car, so no specific color name. And from the french importer, the only information he has is that the car was ordered "dark blue", without any specific color name also. He is trying to identify which blue color(s), in the Glidden Salchi paint range of 1978, were available, hoping to find one that could be a "dark blue". Assuming of course that his car was indeed painted "dark blue", as there are also marks of another coat of paint under today's blue... So the question is: what were the blues available from Glidden Salchi for a 308 in 1978, and how do they look like?
There must be a 308 and/or 78 color chart and/or thread here - its inconceivable the question has not been asked before - Bluemel's book ?
OK, I see.... I have Bluemel's book but not handy. I will dig it out and can get the info if someone doesn't respond in the meantime. Do you know if it is metallic or solid? I would suggest removing a door panel to see if the original color can be determined.
only possible Glidden Salchi blue tones up until 1980 are : Blu Scuro Dino 20-A-357 Azzuro Dino 20-A-349 Blue Dino metallizzato 106-A-72 Blu Sera metallizzato 106-A-18 if the car color is not metallic and since the azzuro is a light colour and "scuro" means "dark" ... the searched colour is most probably Blu Scuro Dino 20-A-357
Danke Michael, that was my choice by deduction as well; as told, the car today is indeed dark blue, non metallic, without any reference whatsoever, but it has obviously been repainted at one time. the french importer said it left the factory "dark blue", and that's all we know... Wünsche dich einen guten Rutsch...
Vielen Danke Herr Nerofer So, inded, as Nerofer mentioned, I own a Euro 308 GTB Carb (1978). It is actually "dark blue" (like Navy Blue), but in some places I can spot traces of a lighter blue (see bellow). Obviously this car has been repainted sometime as the factory color scheme is no respected and the actual layer of dark blue is ...... nothing like a Ferrari Factory job. You can easily scratch the paint with a finger nail or so in some places like on the side of the pop-up headlights. Underneath (where I scratched) the light blue is more of a good quality painting, but nothing there to be sure that is actually was the original color. After few research to the importer (Ets Pozzi) in France, we traced the delivery slip mentioning the car was delivered in a "dark blue" color. No trace of color code in there or on the car. And as the rest of the information mentionned on these official papers are correct (All nbr are matching for instance), I tend to think : - The car was inded delivered in the actual color but has been repainted once in lighter blue and re-sprayed to its original blue (???) - Or there was a sufficient choice of available blue on catalog that even the "light blue" was considered as a "dark blue" by the importer. - Last, but possible, the guy that did the paperwork was color-blinded, or suffered of a severe headhake after a night-out Enough talking, here are the pictures of my car scratch (it took me a lot of courage to do this!) and 2 pics I found on the net that correspond the best to the 2 colors mentionned. I'll join in to say I think its Blue sera metallic or blue scurro ...the picture on the left you have posted is the wonderful earlier Dino color Azzuro Metallica which as noted has metal flake..pull off your door panels and look there or get under the carpet where the later jobs would not have covered the factory paint...scan from those areas for your new paint. Hats off to you for the effort to return it to the original color (which, I'll say...could have well been "paint to sample" even in 1978.)
If you register at ferrari.com doesn't the car's original spec sometimes appear in the My Ferrari section ?
We use to see it but not anymore. I remember when I registered my 308 in 1999 it showed all the info. But nothing now. Just the last 5 digit of the VIN.
