My youngest son does body work and asked the question - what is the overlap percentage and how many coats to achieve perfect gloss when using conventional spraying methods ?

any info will be helpfull .

Depends on the temperature, reducer, gun type, humidity, and type of paint used.

Agreed, but as a rough rule for Urethane I think 33% - 50% overlap is a good place to start. Practice on a panel first before you do the final.

As far as gloss: that comes from the clear-coat. You want enough coats of color to completely cover your sealer, then you spray the clear on very wet. Don't worry about runs and orange peel, you'll wet sand it later. Again, only for Urethane

    Glad to help.

He may also want to take a course. I took a refresher course at a local body shop, they charged me $50 and gave me tons of tips.
