I wonder if the car has to be of that era to apply. I'd love a black/yellow plate for my yellow/black '94 348.

Thanks for the link. Looks like ANY year car can get these plates.

    From the FAQ:

I have been told by a friend in the license plate business, that the driving force behind this legislation is 3M, who has the contract for the material required reflectorized plates (required by a law promoted by 3M), and that the company is angling to remove all manufacturing of the license plates from Folsom Prison.

The end result is that these "Legacy plates" will be flat, and eventually all California plates will be flat and manufactured by 3M.

Wonder if they have a page that shows how many applications they have already received.

Flat plates look cheap. I hope they don't convert!

No purist is going to want one of these flat plates if you're going for the classic, CA plate look. They do look cheesey.

P.S. - considering the iron grip the prison unions have over CA politicians I doubt it'll be easy to yank this business from Folsom?

Has something changed in regards to classic car smog laws? I'm unaware of any changes. Could you please provide a link for more info?

    Thanks

Well it's obviously not a combined 7500. That said, it looks like the black/yellow is up to 6820, up almost 400 from last month. So maybe 2 months away from being accepted. I have yet to put my order in. If I read correctly, once any version plate reaches 7500, all will be produced.

This bums me out in a major way.

I was really hoping to be able to assign a era-correct plate to my car.

I have a pair of blue/yellow plates that I can't get assigned to my car.

    This was my last shot...

I think once one style hits 7500, all styles will be produced. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Hit 7500, so assuming we will see plates on the road soon.

They changed the text on the website to say:
Only the plate or plates that reach 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015 will be implemented.

People better start buying some blues!

Knew of one guy with a 430 who used a service like this to replicate an older plate style with his current correct tag number; he kept his issued plates in the boot and put his registration sticker on the replica plates. Not legal, but I don't recall him getting hassled for it:

    Replicate Your Plate

I wasn't aware there are other "plate programs" that will be issued if 7,500 orders are reached, such as the Snoopy plate below. Anyone aware of others?

Ordered Black and Yellow plates a couple weeks ago for my Lotus... I noticed today that the DMV had cashed my check so I'm presuming the plates are in production.
