I live in Dubai and ordered my Spider in September for a November production and December delivery. The dealer (Al Tayer) confirmed by the end of November that the car should be ready for delivery in the first two weeks of December. Till today I've been promised the car will be delivered in two days and this was happening every two days!? To be honest I was frustrated and started looking for another car and asking for a full refund. I've also asked for a compensation for this mishap and won't buy the car without having a lot of € compensation.

My question is what is happening? The dealer simply says " it left the factory first week of December, they took their money from us and it is with the transport company since then, they are not updating us". That's happening to a car that is coming by airplane!

I asked around, people with few Ferraries and people who use to work in Ferrari, the hypothesis are the following,

    1. Simple delay, wait and you'll get it.
    2. Lost in transport.
    3. Damaged during transport and being fixed now.

The dealer says there are 7 cars to be delivered and are delayed, if any of those guys are here in the forum please let us hear you. Anyone with similar experience or have his own hypothesis please let us know.

P.S. Tired and frustrated buyer :(

If it left the factory in December then you are looking for 6 to 8 weeks sea freight, such lead times are very normal, wait and you will be rewarded.

Why do you think car comes by plane?

    Normally it's sea-freight!

Hold on guys, I think Dr. 458 has a legitimate reason to be a little concerned. His dealer is not providing him with a sufficient amount of details. While it is true that most vehicles are shipped via sea, some are shipped via air. The dealer would have (should have?) expressed this as the reason for the delay, if applicable. If the vehicles were shipped via vessel, the dealer would surely have the vessel name and could track it (and even provide the name of the vessel to Dr. 458!)

However, Dr. 458 is saying that the dealer is promising the car every two days! That type of behavior is not expected from a Ferrari dealer. Something certainly seems awry regarding this situation. Dealerships just shouldn't promise a vehicle every other day. I believe you should sit down with the owner of the dealership, express your concerns, and see if he can provide you with more insight or details. Otherwise, personally, I would be contacting Ferrari themselves and raising hell that my new spider is seemingly MIA.

In my (cynical) opinion, it seems like the dealer knows what the issue is, but is unwilling to share. After all the dealership stated that 7 cars are delayed. A dealership would most definitely be on top of things if 7 cars (with a estimated collective value of over 2+ million usd) simply did not show up?

Personally, I think it is a combination of 1 and 3. There probably some sort of simple delay with maybe some damage on some of the vehicles. Let's just hope that the damage is not on your 458 spider and on some of the other vehicles that the dealer is waiting for.

Again, there is just my opinion. To me, it seems like the dealership is trying to maintain "plausible deniability" regarding the situations.

You know... damage in transport is a real possibility here. It's certainly not unheard of.

I bought a Maserati in LA and then took it for service at another dealer. The service manager of the second dealer said "so, when did you get the hood repainted?".

    "Never" I said.

    Ooops.

I hope you get your car soon. Someone should have given you better information for sure.

If it's coming air freight that typically saves 4-6 weeks of delivery time. Can I suggest that you go speak with the sales manager of the dealer and have him call the factory for an update if his computer doesn't show the status of your delivery.

Im surprised they could get one allocated, specified, ordered and delivered inside 4 months, even in the recession ravaged UK, delivery on a new, personally specced, factory order would be at least 12 months

My 458 had a 1200km transport from Italy to Holland. No oceans to cross, just a 2-day drive.

Well, it was lost for two weeks. Nobody could tell my dealer where the car was. It is easier to track a $10 package than it is a $300k Ferrari, apparently....

Yeah, in Dubai you can order a new Ferrari and get it within 3-4 months. But I have been just dreaming of ordering one for the last 6 months. Still trying to fully recover from the real estate crash of 2008-9. My dad refused to chip in, so I am going to be wise and wait for a 2014 (don't want to finance).

OP, be patient. I am sure you'll get your car shortly. I bet the dealership wants their money just as badly as you want your car. BTW, if you cancelled and got your refund which other car were you considering?

I was contacted by Ferrari factory and my showroom manager, apologies and another promise that the car will arrive on the 13th.

Still frustrated and lost! Hopefully the car wasn't damaged!??

Good news is that the 13th is almost here and once your drive it, you'll forget about all of these issues.

I had a similar situation recently waiting for a Porsche Turbo S. Each car has bar code and along the way it is tracked and the dealer is updated. However, the system is not flawless. Initially my car was reported as being on the Cougar Ace. I was able to track the ship via the marine traffic website. So when it made port in Houston, I expected in the couple of days to be notified by the dealer that the car was on a truck heading their way. Several days passed and no word. As it turned out the car was actually on another vessel, the Paradise Ace, which docked in Houston several days later. Within 2 days the dealer was notified that the car was on the truck heading their way. This is typically the last the dealer hears until the car is delivered.

Since the truck was only carrying cars destined for my dealer it should have arrived within 2, but no more that 3 days of leaving Houston. However, it not show up. Several more days passed and no word. At this point the dealer was getting a little concerned as was I. Since the drivers do not communicate with the dealership, at least in this case he did not, the dealership had to go through Porsche NA and was informed that the truck broke down, and they were working on a solution to get the cars delivered. The car was delivered 3 days later.

Your situation is a bit more extreme but I can sympathize with you. Hope all works out well for you.

Hopefully your dealer got it right this time. Trust me at the end it will all be worth it.
