So I know this is a long-shot but I thought I'd ask anyway. Years ago, around the time when the F40 first came out, I was driving late at night in Paradise Valley, AZ, and saw a unique pair of headlights behind me on Tatum Blvd. Lo and behold, a red F40 overtook me and sped ahead. It was unique because the "F-40" indentation on the side of the rear wing was painted yellow, making it rather unique. The rest of the car looked "stock."

Anyone, by chance, have that car or know whose it was?

It was a really memorable experience and the first F-40 I ever saw, and loved that it was on the street at 3 am!

My friend's father owned an F40 in the mid-late 90s for a number of years (I can't remember the exact years) that had that same detail. I have no way of knowing if this was the same car you saw because he wasn't the original owner, I don't know the SN and he doesn't live in AZ. I do know that he bought it used from a Chicago area Ferrari dealer. There was quite a bad history to this particular car. I wouldn't be surprised if someone here knows the full story.

These pics came from a Lamborghini dealer in Vegas around 2008. These are *not* my pictures. All credit goes to the photographer.

Chassis number 86640, engine number 24241 owned at the time by original Arizona resident owner Louis B Murphey.

Murphey took delivery of 86640 on December 31st 1990, registered address in Phoenix Arizona, delivered as a New F40 to him by Cavallino Classics, Scottsdale Arizona.

Murphey had the yellow letters painted on the tail by Glen Roberts at Finishing Touch in Arizona, this confirmed by Harley Cluxton at GTC.

It was then owned by 2 other owners, and then myself about 14 years ago, for a summer during which I used it as an everyday car logging up 2,000 miles that summer alone. I sold it to a wonderful gentleman (who still has it), in the fruit growing & fruit-packing business where it sits amongst his impressive Indycar racing car collection.

I have to tell you that the yellow "F40" insignia is long gone.

PS - Knowing Mr Murphey, at 3am there was undoubtedly a beautiful lady passenger on board!

    Hope this helps..

Greg, I believe this is another F40, I have the number noted but I have to run out, so I will advise later.

Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much. That has to be the car. I'm 39 now and my Ferrari obsession started at a very young age. I will NEVER forget the sight of that F40 passing me late at night.

Although I can only dream about an F40, I finally took the plunge two weeks ago and bought the car that was my childhood fantasy....a 308 QV. Happy and proud to be part of "the club." That particular F40 certainly fed my addiction!

I really appreciate your response, Joe.
