2012 screen change?

Just come across this pic of a 458 spider ... It appears to show a speedo display on the left screen ...is that an update? ... On both the italias I have owned the right screen swaps between nav/audio and digital/analog speedo
This appears a better layout as u cb have the speedo up all the time when using nav etc.... So is this an update improvement on either spiders or laters models ?

You have lost me.
In my car it is the right screen that has the nav/audio/speedo ( pressing the back button toggles between speedo & audio/nav )
Are you saying if my audio is switched off then the speedo appears on the other side?
Dont understand the logic of this:-
'True of all 458's. The speedometers on both left and right sides are defaults when screen on opposite side not being used. Also can adjust size of speedometer'

Is that a bit daft, why is it the oppisite screen not being used that means you have the speedo on the opposite side?

Also dont understand this:-

'Speedo on left side when audio system on, when audio off, the speedo is in right screen on '13 Spider'

So has that changed then, as on mine as I say its pressing the back button that changes between audio & speedo on the right screen...

Quite simply am i missing something on my 2011 italia, whereby I would like a speedo displayed in the left screen ( not bothered about seeing oil temp/pressure etc on that side all the time, much more sueful to have a speedo ) so that I can have audio or nav screen on the right ...pretty much as in the picture I posted, didnt think you could display speedo on the left screen?

 

I have searched and found some info, but nothing I didnt already know, cannot find any reference to how you get the speedo displayed on the left screen. It seems non sensical to have to have the right screen switched off for this too happen.
Surely it is far more useful to have the big speedo in the r/h screen ( instead of the oil status etc ) and the right screen with the nav map/audio. If I am going somewhere and using the nav I want the map on and the speedo on the other screen, this seems the obvious way to configure it, then on the right screen if I want to check on oil on occasion I can toggle between that & speedo.
Anyone know if this is possible on a 2011 italia, or from the above posts was it an upgrade done later?..surely anyway the upgrade is only software so if it is it would be applied when serviced anyway?

 

better pic....you can see the speedo on the left, and also the screen is working on the right, so it would seem the right screen doesnt need to be off to allow speedo display on the left screen.
I struggle to see why this would be 'non upgradeable' surely its only a software update?

Thanks Mayor....I have emailled the dealer to confirm this is the case, shame if it is, odd as like I said you would of thought such software was relatively easy to update for such a small thing.

Oh well nevermind at least it gives me something else to look forward to when my spider turns up!!

 

How cheeky monkey?... I have gone into the setup on the left screen and in setup it has the option to set the right screen for digital analogue speedo , nowhere is there am option to do any setup on the left screen ... Maybe yours is a late 2011 ?
Dealer called me back today but didn't have chance to speak to him, so speaking to him Sunday... Hopefully then it will become clear if its possible or not

 

Right just off the phone from the dealer so have the definitive answer:-
In late 2011 ( so some 11 cars will some wont ) they updated the screens etc so you can display the speedo on the left screen. No cars prior to this update can do that
Unfortunately it requires a big change ie its hit software apparently it's the whole speedo binnacle that was updated so there is no solution for pre update cars ( unless of course u want to spring bug bucks for a new binnicle...no thanks )
So there we have it the definitive answer for all u searchers in the future !!
