I've been having serious air-conditioning issues with my GTO from the day I took delivery. The system is just not up to the mark to keep the interior cool, even at night. Settings I use - full auto, 18C, recycle. The system starts up fine but the air flow quickly winds down to barely perceptible, even when the outside temperature is 36C. The temperature of the air coming out of the vents feels fine. The cold air appears to be leaking out at a greater rate than added. Thus the heat. Tests by the local dealer show all parameters to be "normal". It's now over a year and Ferrari haven't come up with a solution. I wonder if anyone else has faced similar issues with this car. How about owners from the middle east? Surely I can't be the only one, I hope !!! I look forward to your suggestions.
tried everything ... recycle, outside air, manual, auto ... nothing makes any difference ... tho neither the local dealer nor ferrari have commented on that ...
To be honest I dont think the system is too efficient but you shouldnt be having issues at night when the air is cooler. I know that here in 35 degree heat the system does struggle a bit to keep the cabin even fairly cool. The exposed metal floor radiates heat which makes the cabin even hotter. Edited to add: on mx fan speed the aircon does an ok job but you really need to have it on max fan speed on very hot days.
Watch Chirs Harris's test of the GTO... There are three parts if you go onto YouTube. He comments how poor the AC is and how the cabin never seems to get cool.
i was categorically told not to use the max manual speed as it is purely for "defrost" ... not that we will ever have snow or ice in singapore ... ever ... i've seen it ... and i brought up his comments with the dealer here prior to ordering the car. i was assured that chris' comments were a one off and the aircon would be suited for our climate ... clearly chris' comments were correct ...
Try using the max fan speed it will make a difference. Have done long drives witht the fan on max and there have been no ill effects(i.e the fan still works)
agreed ... the problem is that the difference in fan speed between 3 & max is so large - 3 is almost non-existent - that max seems to be the only speed that actually functions ... and there shld really be no need to solely use max speed ...
Do you have the thermo windscreen? I have on mine, and I also noticed on warm days in Zug, the aircon struggled
I have no new suggestions but was wondering why the 599GTO A/C should be any worse than the 599. Possible answer: It is the same unit but much insulation has been removed in the interest of lightening --> poorer A/C performance.
i hear you ... but by that arguement the Lambo Superleggera shld have poor airconditioning too compared to the stock gallardo ... but it didn't, it's aircon was top notch ...
Wanna take a seat in my normal 599 to see if it's the same? I find my aircon ridiculously cold and I leave it on the lowest setting permanently. My settings are: Recycle, forward air only (no up or down), 18 degrees and 1 on the fan power. Also, Noblesse Oblige might be right, the lightening of the car may have removed much of the insulation that is essential for aircon to work properly in our country.
i've sat in mao's and its fine ... it's the GTO that seems to have an issue ... unless mine is the only one ... hmmm ...
I have heard of these issues with GTO aircon, but don't know if we have different units fitted for the Middle East, but I have no issues with the temperature in my GTO in Dubai, and summer temperatures here are 45c!!
MP- hard to believe the air conditioning works great on Maranellos, 612s and 599s, but not on GTOs. Sounds like you have a maintenance problem with a stuck schrader valve, clogged filter/dryer, evaporator sensor or potentiometer or something else not working properly. Insulation does not weigh that much, so doubt they scrimped that much on it. Has to be a solution. If Ferrari cannot find it with their diagnostic tools, you might try an A/C specialist.
from what you are saying, this prob may be unique to my car ... for whatever reason ... tnx for the feedback ...
the prob is that if the dealer finds out that a 3rd party has worked on the car, they'll void the warranty instantly ... but i agree with you 100% ... what they are now playing with is a resistor to "fool" the computers into believing that is is hotter outside than it actually is ... thus causing the system to blow air at higher speeds ... what other issues crop up at a later stage due to this, remain to be seen ...
