I don't know if I would buy one for "investment, although it has worked well for others. You can get in a lot of unseen work in a hurry. If it has always been your dream car since you were a kid? You only live once.

IMHO, the 70 with pop-up headlights is 2nd tier collectible status.

You are more than welcome to call me for a discussion, I am not in the car biz, just a fan of everything that has wheels or a propeller.

To MANY variables in your inquiry...in Real Estate....it's Location, location, location. With cars, it's....Condition, condition, condition. With only 401 produced, parts are difficult to acquire & accordingly costly....plus the handling is less than desireable....Mark

Mark, Almost every part I was looking for I managed to source or locate, not easy but possible. Time and effort. Not any worse than any Ferrary or Lamborghini from the 50's-60's, forget a Bizz or an ATS.

The car is in pieces. The engine has been rebuilt, interior is redone, body is ready for fresh paint ( currently there is no paint on the car but I think it's been prept). Suspension has all been rebuilt. They have everything for the car even the spare.

What would be a fair price to pay for it as it sits?

Ted, in theory that sound good. Without knowing who has the car some times it being all apart may not garantee complete inventory of all the parts. The first Mangusta I considered was claimed to be complete and I was overbid a few hours before I was to fly out and see the car. The gentleman who purchased it. pais asking price but wrote-up a contract where all parts were inventoried and missing components were deducted at fair market from price.Let's say he paid much less than my offer in the end. I don't hold it against him as I ended-up buying a driver and am enjoying it a whole lot more. PM sent.

I think a very nice one could go 150-70. It's my pick for most potential to gain value. Possible Giugiaro's best work. Small build quantity and easy to maintain. It has it all.

This is EXCELLENT commentary/advice from Dennis. As every little piece/part = "MONEY"!!!.....If this is the car you have interest in, my advice/opinion would be..."First" purchase a Mangusta "Parts & Accessories cataloge", then methodically log EVERY PIECE!! of the car in question....might be a CHASIM of difference between the seller's version of "Complete" & the actually accounted for inventory....Mark

My former car....can you say flip? :D

I knew when I gave it away that someone would probably DOUBLE my a$k and get it. Watch and see that I was correct! I had to rush a sale and that went well for the buyer of this incredible Mangusta.

I have 245/50/15's. 305's no longer available. PI forum has a thread on tire choices. Close friend and fellow owner MarkC has just purchased new tires for 1114.

I plan on fitting my very nice Michelin XWX original-size tires to my factory rims and to get a set of the new 8" and 10" (rear) wide 15" rims from Group4 Wheels in the UK for "daily driving".

After much searching and debate, I decided on a set of the inexpensive BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires in 215-60/15 front and 275-60/15 rears. The rolling diameter for the fronts is spot-on the original size 185-70/15s and the rears are about 1/2" taller (a good thing) than the original 225-70/15s. I'd have preferred the 305-50/15 and the 225-50/15s but neither are available any longer. Avon has some options but they are many times more expensive after shipping from the UK, and not (from what I could find) a much better fit.

Of course, since my car is one of the lowly and undesirable (but, ironically more rare) 2-lamp US models, I'll be driving it into the ground once I finish restoring it. ;-)

Dennis is you car finally out again. You finished your brakes and suspension? This car is great looking. And fun to drive;-) Last time I saw it was in the corner of the garage with no suspension in the back. And now this little Ferrari is all crated.

Yes the Mangusta is a driver again but last summer was a blurr, the mini-Ferrari was a project for my grandson. Unfortunately it was too fast for his mother (my daughter) and my wife. The Kiddy308 is going to a family where father owns a racing 355 (IIRC) so it may be appreciated more. This winter's project is "clean the garage". FWIW I started the Mangusta and let it warm outside yesterday, even though we have almost 2ft of snow, the temperature was close to 8C (48F). But I fear we are off course for this thread.

I was hoping to hear from the OP and his project car. I know of 7 Mangusta in Canada, there is another that was photographed here in Ottawa when it landed from Rome in '86. (Photo courtesy of Randy Snow) It has a unique front spoiler, would love to see that one or any other Canadian Mangusta.
