ah, so the "pit candy w/ the impossibly small waist" was Louise! I recall that series having a dozen or so photos; don't remember where I saw them . . .

Note the condition of the car!! ... restorers of race cars should take notice of photos like this and stop fncken sanding and straightening everything in sight.

The guy smoking a pipe on the left, is Giovanni Canestrini : the famous journalist , one of the four organizers of the 1000 Miglia.
I guess that the hand holding a cigarette on the far left doesn't belong to him.

I don't know who is but, for sure, he is none of the five Marzotto brothers here below

    Ciao

Peter first met Louise in 1957! This was a, also physionomic, different girl.

Is the mechanic in this picture installing cigars into the car? "Let's see, Collins usually goes through two cigars during Monaco. Or is that Hawthorne?"

The Marzottos never raced much outside Italy and none of ever raced in Carrera. I think Giannino said they had responsibilities (which is also why he finally had to quit racing) and that Carrera was insane - way too dangerous.

I think the dude with the cigar might be the photographer preparing his equipment in order to take a portrait photo of the winning team. Must have been very important for Chinetti after 1-2 finish. Drivers are clearly chit-chatting while preparing to pose. It is touching how the young lad is grabbing Ascaris arm to make sure he will get into the picture with his heroes - (and ours).

I am happy that I saw one in person back in the early '80s and sat in her. Still alittle sad though that it was most likey my last time, no second date. :(

Mr. Ferrari was hardly threatened by any of them but he was annoyed at comments made by several team members about his wife's meddling in team policies at the races. They asked that she not attend events and rather than let her go he fired the lot. Some good people were out. Lessons learned the hard way.

Makes sense. If he was threatened, then sacking them so they could create a rival team would not have made sense ... the departure comment makes no sense either. Sure it's mid engined and their first but same construction methods just relocation of major components.

Chuck, totally off-topic - I think you'll recall my old prototype 365GTC? After 30 years I finally sold it in David Gooding's Pebble auction in 2007; it will be auctioned by Bonham's this afternoon in Scottsdale. Here's the url for the auction:

    best,

Thank you, I knew the Rosier car was saved with a New Zealand built F1 body, but have the two sport car bodies been found/saved?
