Haven't driven one yet, but I was just wondering what everyone else's impressions of the new Rover are. Personally, I think the outgoing model was better looking and i hate the Jaguar-esque rotary gear shifter. In my opinion they should've learned from BMW's attempt at an out of the box gear shifter on the 02-08 7 series only for them to switch back to a more traditional(albeit electronic) gear shifter on the new 7s. I know the weight loss and improved MPG is a big thing, so I'm interested to hear driving impressions.

    Best luxury SUV bar none.
Had 11 of them(previous gen) in my family, since mid 90s.
Contrary to many detractors, including here at Fchat, all were utterly reliable, significantly more trouble free then the Benzes we had and have.
Drove the new one and all I can say is that thing has no competition..........

My 06 HSE is 7 years old and has about 37K miles on it. It is my winter car and go get stuff car and I have found it to have spent a lot less time in the shop than my Cayenne TT or other SUV's I have owned. I think the new one is very nice waiting on the longer wheelbase car, I need a third row to make me want to switch.

    Given that indicates 11 in less than 20 years . . .

When you say "family", does this include extended family?

What model/year was standout in reliability or lack thereof?

Family includes my folks and my brother, personally had 6.
1996 had alarm failures, stranded us at a restaurant once.
They were continuously getting better, with our last (2010 SC) being absolutely bulletproof and requiring only oil change and tires replacement in Winter in it's 30k miles.
There was one minor recall, they brought a new RR as a loaner and flat bedded ours for the fix that was done the same day.
My wife has replaced it with the new G63 but I am already eying the new Range R. for it's astounding combo of comfort and performance (it just won EVO comparison test with Mulsanne and Phantom).
Losing almost a ton of it's weight does wonders for dynamics.

doesn't surprise me...2003 Rovers were TERRIBLE, but they seem to fix problems in the later years, though this new Tata ownership is largely untested. what has gone wrong with your Evoque? And, in case it's any consolation, I saw an Evoque rear-end a Camry the other day so hard the the Camry's trunk crumpled to its back seat, but the Evoque had nearly no visible damage.

I think the new RR is leaps and bounds above the outgoing model, performance and technology-wise. And it does have a very neat "executive pack" rear seating option with split buckets in the back. Aesthetically, especially on the outside, I can't say I like it better than the '03-'12 (L322) model. As they say, newer doesn't necessarily mean more beautiful.

One thing to note; the new (L405) Range Rover in N/A trim will outrun the old L322 model in S/C trim as the new one is 1,000 lbs lighter due to extensive use of aluminum throughout the structure.

Hard to find a nicer interior than a RR.

I have a 2013 SDV8 Vogue for a test drive today and tomorrow - it´s amazing, way more dynamic than the 322 (I currently own a 2012 5.0sc) and with a brilliant interior.

I didn´t like the 405 when I saw the first pictures, but it´s so much better in real life.

My order for a 5.0sc will follow in a few days.

It´s not sure for 100%, but maybe a 550hp engine will fit the supercharged RR in future (maybe MY2014).

    cheers
