You people are more obsessed than ferrari owners
Is there a point to this post? I just don't see the need or value in posting up a statement like that. If you were joking, I don't get it. If you were not joking, at least make sure the spelling in the title of your post is correct.
This!! ^^^^^ I almost thought it was Kwripke posting!! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA5Zhir8rbc[/ame]
Have you seen the collections of some Ferrari owners (both 1:1 and scale models)? There are some collections that would astound you.
As opposed to the owners Lamborghinis/Aston Martins/Porsches/etc/etc? And, that statement doesn't only apply to model collectors. In fact, pretty much any collection, regardless of subject, can become an obsession - be it models, stamps, or anything else at all. However, there's no way to be objective about where or when a collector becomes obsessive and no two people could ever agree on where exactly the crossover point between the two points of view actually occurs. I know guys with far fewer models than I have, whom I consider to be obsessive - and yet I have met other people who simply cannot understand that what I consider to be a hobby (i.e. collecting scale model cars in my case), is not a money-wasting obsession. Personally, I consider myself to be reasonably happy - somewhere in the middle...
Being passionate about a hobby is a healthy thing. only have around 200 handbuilt models, and I sold way more than I kept.. as long as its under control, and doesn't mind the wife its okay (I think)
I was not obsessive when I started, then I was for a while, now I am no longer. Sold over 2500 model cars and planes over the last two years. And the model car tangents like books, magazines, posters, brochures, etc. The "obsession" wore off, and the enjoyment returned. Nice to keep and appreciate the ones remaining.
I have to admit, I'm a little bit nuts over my models although I do own a real Ferrari so it does distract me from collecting miniatures at times...
My thoughts exactly. What on earth is your intention in creating this thread? Let people follow their passions. Read the title for this section of the forum, you'll find it says "Collectables, Literature, & Models". If you don't like it, be quiet & go do something else. As a matter of fact, I think you'll find some of the most avid collectors are F-owners too, Mr. Junichiro Hiramatsu is a name that comes to mind. (The commisioner of SP1 as well as having a five-figure collection of models) Creating a ranting thread really doesn't do any good...
Money for models gets spent on my car. I do have a nice small collection of around 25 display models but they're still packed away in boxes from our last move.
I only collect rare 1/43; amr, alezan, provence moulage, etc., but only those that are factory built and are generally only 'one off' prototypes, and any time I can avoid the color red, I do.
I feel better to see that others are obsessed about collecting models too. For a moment I thought I was the only one. I have a couple of collections going: a) all Ferrari F1 in 1/43 b) all available Ferrari F1 in 1/12 a) is done and b) will keep me busy way into my retirement
Years ago, I started collecting 1:18 scale cars. But I started to find that my collection was growing too fast and getting too large quickly. So I decided to only collect cars 1:12 or larger. It helped with the growth issue but I still have almost 200 cars in my collection. I collected Pocher models for some time (1:8). Then I focused on the 1:12 diecast collectible cars. I did have several of them on shelves but did not like how dusty they were getting. So I carefully cleaned and packed each one to wait until I complete my custom lighted glass display case. I am designing it to hold around 35 to 40 cars at a time. So while I will not be able to see my whole collection at once, it will keep it fresh to be able to rotate some cars out now and then. I am sorry that I cannot offer any pics of my collection at this time but hopefully later this year.
I ment (incorrect spelling on purpose this time, but thanks teacher) it (obsessed) as a complament (x2). Based on the response it seems you have strong feelings. Step one is admitting you have a problem, just kidding! I think it is cool. Just bought my first 2, and I sincerely hopes (x3) i never own more than 2 - slippery slope here. alternatives: fanatical, enthusiastic, passionate, willing, focused
thats the start of the adiction... 2 diecasts? if so Its certain you will get a handbuild sooner or later.. No built kits for me either... unless they are built by a pro! (part of my 1:43's) This took 25 years... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mine are a mixed bag: some 1/24 Hotwheels Ferraris in red, some 1/43 - mostly Ferraris, a few Porsches, Vettes, and Jags. If wanting to collect seriously I'd go for high quality 1/43 and begin with the earliest Ferraris and work forward from there.
I love collecting 1/18 BMW models and none of my friends understand my interest with it and I couldn't care less what they think. Whenever they go on a talk (aka rank) for over 30 seconds about my hobby, I simply reply with "why do you care what I do with my money and life?" Seriously. If it doesn't affect you, why would it bother you or anyone else for that matter? With that said, I think my hobby is under control. I have already written down exactly which models I want and what's left. So far I have 52 of the 60 1/18 BMW models I want and am just waiting for good deals on those final 8 assuming I can find 4 of them that rarely show up for sale.
could have owned one... but as you can see my favourite is a Ferrari I couldn't afford anyway.. (yet)
I am not sure what do you mean by hoping it is mine, but thank you anyway. I have a lot more models and they actually have their own room. http://imageshack.us/a/img255/6420/dsc1372h.jpg All F1 cars from 1949 'till today, which is in my kitchen http://imageshack.us/a/img716/1516/dsc0383zw.jpg
