Doesn't make sense, the silhouette and jalpa are designed the way that the hot air from the radiator passes under the car.
Those louvres are just behind the head lights, there is no hot air, even not on the P250 and P300 Urracos, furthermore there are louvres on the bottom side of the fender.
    even on the Jalpa: http://www.jalpa.ch/Restoration/index.html

I thought the bodywork was modified during the restoration completed in 1993 just in time for the 25th anniversay event.

Delivered 21/07/77 to Kessel, this Silhouette was originally red with beige interior.

The car was previously on Berlin, Germany with license plate B-MZ 17, and before that wore B-VJ 5 from 1977 til 1985.

It now wears registration B-07002 and is owned by it's third owner, a member of the International Lamborghini Owner's Club.

The special body modifications were made in 1983 by the factory for Generosso Jacomo,

the car's second owner. The car was purchased by it's second owner, in very bad condition as is apparent from the photos below. It was then restored by him from the spring of 1991 until August of 1993 and the first test drive was to the Lamborghini Day 3 at the factory.

Thanks Raymond. Whatever one's opinion about the modifications we must be thankful that there are enthusuasts who are commited to restore these rarities inspite of the adverse cost/value ratio. Bravo!

Small article about the V8 Lamborghini's. Nothing new in the article but the pictures are great imho.

    Lamborghini Urraco: Der brachiale Schönling

The Silhouette is #40004, don't know the numbers for the Urraco and the Jalpa.

The Urraco is #20508 and was owned by the same owner as the Silhouette, he sold the Urraco recently to Ticino (south of switzerland).

" is one of the estimated 31 remaining of only 52 ever built between 1976 and 1979"

hmmm... are they sure about that?

Not sure if the numbers are exactly right but I think they are close. Very low production numbers on the Silhouette. I am sure there have been a few of them lost to wrecks and neglect.

Here is a line from an article at LamboCars.com:

"The amazing Lamborghini Silhouette was kept in production for a only two years, production totaling at no more than 52 units from which only 27 to 31 are believed to have survived today, so the Silhouette is still a very rare car, and obtaining one could become a rather costly adventure today, just like the entire V8 experience was to the late Ferruccio back in the Seventies."

There were 2 prototypes 40000 and 40002 sold as customer cars and 52 production cars 40004 to 40106.

The oft quoted figure of 31 survivors is perhaps derived from Pasini's register published in 1988. Subsequent research shows there were more survivors than this in 2010.

Here is a picture of 40032 at Geneva 1977 sitting in front of the Cheetah. The extra vents on the leading edge of the engine cover that featured on only a few cars can be seen through (or reflected on) the rear window.

Sorry for the quality of the scan but here is a complete Silhouette toolkit. I have the same blueish canvas bag but some of the contents are missing!

Following the sale of 40070 on eBay the ILR has published a report on Silhouette values and a few long awaited updates to the registry. Condition is not mentioned but some of the cars were "not original" or "not without needs" at time of offer.

Quite by chance I discovered that Mel Nichols' book 'And The Revs Keep Rising' was published today. The front cover illustration is 40010 viewed from behind the wheel of the P300 with 7000 RPM and 160mph indicated but more like 142 mph at 20.33 mph per 1000 rpm as featured in Convoy!

The book includes: the first Lamborghini Countach - Monaco to Modena with Bob Wallace; Espada - Modena to London, 900 miles in 11 hours; three Lamborghinis flat-out through France; Countach S - at 186mph the straight is running out; Silhouette - sad, sweet song of the last Silhouette.

Needless to say I have already ordered a copy!

So Mel drove 40010, plus the last UK car from the 'sad, sweet song' article (40098?), plus my car (see my post last year), i.e. at least three different Silhouettes. Is that a record?

Are there any Silhouettes in Arizona or California? I will be in those areas the first week of April and I haven't seen one yet.

Well the book turned up this afternoon.

Jonathan E's outing with Mel gets a mention in the introduction..."I joined Jonathan for a day's driving in his beautifully sorted Silhouette. Its performance seems less stand out now of course but on meandering Wiltshire roads I was soon reminded of its chassis' charm and the beguiling spread of power from that sonorous V8".

    Bravo Jonathan! Bravo Mel!
