Can anyone recommend an honest mechanic with reasonable rates in the L.I. NY area?
Shopping for a 328 to replace my Euro 308 GT4 that was totaled in hurricane Sandy.
    Grazie!

Luigi Scala at Universal Autosports in Glen Cove. One of the best around.

I'm biased, these guys take care of my car and are awesome. They can probably help you find the right car as well.

We are located on Long island and service several 308/328 owners on f-chat. Was your 308 red and on craigslist?

Check out some of Bradan's threads in the NY Metro section on some of the work they've done. Terrific!! Most "Ferrari" mechanics are not cheap, but you want quality work. In the long run, it costs less to have it done right to begin with. Bradan's work is pretty impressive.

Hi Stefano, my name is Jenn and i work in the service department for Ferrari of Long Island in Plainview, NY
You should give us a try, we have a very competetive vintage service program with extremely reduced parts and service rates for all of the older models. We also offer pick up and delivery service. If you would like to stop by or give us a call i will put our information below. Hope to meet with you!

I have a Euro GT4 and it is serviced by Wehrmann Engineering, at 70 Suffolk Court in Hauppauge. Most of their work is in very high end vintage race cars, including F1. Mark Wehrmann is meticulous. Phone: 631 467 8366

Nothing like Ferrari dealers to give a totally unreasonable quote.

As Stefano knows, my last belt change cost me $500 -- and that included a tip for the mechanic -- a Ferrari 3X8 owner and professional mechanic who works part time for a specialty shop and part time on his own. Didn't have to do water pump or tensioner bearings, because I changed those myself the last time around.

But it takes no real special knowledge to change the belts on a 3X8. And if you can do a Google search for "GT Car Parts", you can get the parts.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: any good mechanic who can change a timing belt on a Civic or Subaru will find changing the belts on a 3X8 a walk in the park, so paying a Ferrari dealer or specialty shop that feels the need to charge a gold-plated flat rate for every nut and bolt is simply a waste of money. (There are great, okay, kind-of-bad, and really bad mechanics everywhere. Just because it's a dealership or specialty shop doesn't mean that they are actually good or better trained to work on a 3x8.)

By the way, everyone, the car that Stefano is looking at is AWESOME!!! The "issues" from the PPI are about as minor as they get and probably the smallest list of things to address for a non-concours 328.

Can't wait to hear that he's got the deal done and see pictures of him standing next to it with a big "I can't believe I got this car at this price" grin. ;)
