I'm not talking about the performance of the car (which I'm sure is staggering) but how it is regarded in the Ferrari hierarchy.

The 288 GTO, the F40, the F50 and the Enzo are the halo cars of Ferrari.

I don't think it is wrong to view the 599 GTO as an optimized version of the GTB, just like the Scuderia and the Stradale are optimized versions of the 430 and 360.

You will get quite an argument over on the 599 Forum... and there have been some heated ones there. The advocates for a special place for the 599 GTO argue that this GTO is based on the 599XX, which is a dedicated race car, very different than the street 599.

Anyway this is one of the things that makes FCars so interesting.

The 599xx is a dedicated track car, not a race car and there is a big difference, which is why people complained about the GTO name being used. Regardless, incredible car, and lots of threads in the appropriate section.

Yes. My mistake. But the advocates of a special status for the 599GTO point to the track origin as something that differentiates the GTO from a simple variant of the mainstream 599.

They would say it should be.

To me the 288 GTO is clearly differentiated from any of the V8s of the time due to its different configuration (e.g., longitudinal engine vs. transverse, turbocharging etc.). I am not sure about the 599 GTO.

Wikipedia is even more confusing on the matter, but I'm sure LdM wouldn't consider the 599 gto as the Enzo successor

"He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy" (J.C.)
And not J.C. as in the Messiah, but as in the other very naughty boy.

For the 599 they clearly used the GTO badge just to sell more.

It is nothing like the halo super cars; 288,F40,F50 and Enzo. These 4 sit lower than any other Ferrari with a race inspired look to them and all 4 are not glorified versions of road models.

599 sits as high and as bubbly as a Lincoln

So the 599 GTO is out of the equation.

Well I may be wrong but to these eyes the 288 GTO has more than a passing resemblance to a 308 in basic shape...

You do realise that the engine in a 288 GTO is longitudinal whereas the engine in a 308 is tranverse ... massive change compared to a few bolt on goodies (including the badge) on a 599 to make a 599 GTO.

Back to the F70, seems its not likely it will be made in RHD, which is pity for those RHD only markets, I wonder how viable a conversion to RHD would be considering the fact this car is likely to be very complex from a systems point of view.

It won't be, at least there aren't any plans for it right now, but there both F40s and F50s that have been converted. All it takes is money and time.

Right, I've tried to put this thread back on track before, so here's another attempt. Have you seen it yet? Or are you still waiting? The side profile is needs to grow on me, however I think the rear and nose are great. I'll have to see it in the flesh to be sure, but personally I think it's prettier than the Enzo.

Would you say the size of the car is similar to the Enzo or slightly more compact?

I arrived at night dreaming of the F150. I'm out of words to say I can not wait any longer

I see for months the prototype camouflaged and don't know yet if it will be more or less fascinating and iconic than Enzo, but it looks to be something very special. A bit the same has happened to me in 2009 with the 458 (obviously not comparable to the myths as the Enzo), however, the 458 with camo was very interesting and attractive...
