I need to get to the door locking mechanism as it is broke and will not allow the door to open (I have tried everything -see thread - can't get driver's door open). Is there ANY way to get the interior off the drivers door with the door closed. I will even be happy just getting one section of the interior off to try to get to the locking mechanism. Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!

Get someone with a slimjim to open the door for you.

+1. I've taken the inner skin off the door when I was refinishing the leather and there is no way to access the retaining screws with the door closed. Good luck!

A slim jim will not work, the screwdriver deal on myferrari.com won't work. It is actually the locking mechanism (which grabs the door). The skins are going to have to be removed with the door closed - no choice. Anybody have any sugestions on a process to remove the skin? Thanks

    Chris,
I may be wrong, but I think you can take off the panel just above the carpet with the door closed. Counting the carpet, there are four sections, the top, bottom carpet, and two middle sections. The lower one is held to the door with plastic plug type clips and I think you can pry the panel loose with the door closed. With that one off, you should be able to unbolt the other mid section panel which contains the window switches and handle. I don't recall if there are end screws that are concealed with the door closed but I don't think so. Give that a try.

There are retaining screws along the bottom of the door as well in addition to the plastic clips.

I just looked at my car Chris and I can't figure out a way to get to the inside of the door without damaging the panel. I confirmed that there are screws along the bottom edge of the panel. I guess the best thing I could suggest if the mechanical solution (slim jim) isn't an option, is to choose a spot that can be re-upholstered and cut a hole just big enough to access the lock mechanism. Wish I had some better news for you and hope that someone else can come up with a better idea. Sorry buddy...

Ill ask Max at Daytona here in Toronto this week. He knows these cars inside out. If theres a way, he will know it after all he was in on the design of many of these
    babies. Dont cut anything yet.

You cant open the door any other way but to slide a screwdriver in the top of the door where the black piece is at the edge of the door.

I had a siezed cable so I had to break the pin holding the cable. Once I broke the pin, the door popped open....but if your cable is not siezed, push down on the latch (which youcan see very clearly) and voila......348 door theft 101

If you need any extra help, let me know, I can guide you on how to do it.....

Thanks for all the help. This is not a cable problem, as I see the lever go down and can even push the lever down with a screw driver. Something in the door mechanism itself is just clicking and not letting go of the door post. I even had a family member hold the door handle in the open position, then I put a short peice of 2x8 against a pillow which was then against the door. I kick pretty damn hard, and still no luck. The mechanism has a broken piece in it (somewhere) that can only be accessed by getting to the mechanism.

Man, this is a tough one. Even took off the door fins (I could not take it all the way because once a again there is a bolt that can only be accessed with the door open).I did get the back part of the fins out enough to see the door post and locking mechanism. This was not any help, as the door post and locking mechanism are above the fins and still enclosed by the door.

I think the only way to fix this is somehow access from the interior.

Removing the door trim could be a little complicated due to having pieces being broken in the rear of the door where it latches. It has a steel strip there.

Here is a breakdown of the door (thanks to Ricambi)

and here is a link from the web site, My 348.com (which is AMAZING) to get the breakdown on the trim removal.

    Good luck

Maybe a steel wire saw can be inserted from the outside and cut the portruding bolt that comes out of the pillar.

There is minimal space but perhaps you could tape the saw where it comes in contact with the door and manage to cut the bolt.

I know this is insanely far fetched....but I'm trying

I've also seen rubber bags you can insert and then they get filled with compressed air and it is very strong and does a "jaws-of-life" type of thing where it pryes things apart.

Did you get your door open yet?
You have to get at it from the outside by removing the door grill/scoop. They you can reach inside with small hands to get to the latch. Its not easy but is the only way. Have an ice pack ready for your wrist and hand when your done.
