they're taxis here on the Coast and yet I know of only one pretty woman driving one

 

Interestingly(for Prius owners),Cairns has the highest,per capita,taxi ownership.

Yep just an A6 that happens to have a relocated engine.

The only modern Audi that gets my interest is the RS4 wagon, but I'm sure it would solve my sleeping issues if I actually drove one.

Yep,you're right there,some of the numbers I've heard,from a bloke that was racing an FF in Targa Tas, was about 6-7 MPG!

 

When I was around 21, I had an LE Monaro and my still to this day, best mate had a 1969 Falcon GTHO with a Windsor 351 and a 36 gallon/160 litre fuel tank. This thing was very, very quick and never beaten on the street. Ever.

I once said to him, "What's it like on fuel?"
His reply, "Not too bad, I get around 13 miles to the gallon"
I said " That's a lot better then I expected!"
His reply, "Yes, 6 miles around town and 7 on the highway".

 

From memory it had as standard a 110 litre fuel tank. Back in the days when fuel was cheap(er in NZ) my father decided to fill it right up ... when it passed $100 he gave up.

I used to run that car out of gas all the time. One of those cars if you think it's going to run out it most definitely will!

But I did like that car. Was a little weird when you lifted off at high speed ... it needed settling time (I assume it needed new or uprated front shocks), but otherwise a competent and balanced car.

That would have been John P. He still has the FF, which is 4WD (for the youngsters on here) and also has Dunlop "Maxaret" braking, the pioneer of ABS. A very advanced package for 1966.

I like the Jeremy Clarkson line about the Jensen's Chrysler V8, "it turns petrol into noise, but not much else".

 

The FF held the 0-100-0 record at the time

I had a couple of mates get done by these guys through the Black Spur on their bikes not at the impound speeds but 3 points each, and about 2 weeks later EPA notices for non standard exhausts.
The place that they set up on the spur was about the only place to overtake safely, not very friendly at all.
I have always thought there was something about the speed detection devices or the users cannot hide and must be in the open, maybe that has changed.
