Quick update on the rebuild of my 348 which I bought with most of the electrics not working.

Next problem on the list was the high beam flasher which kept blowing its fuse whether the beam was on or not. I followed all the cables back from the lights - no problem. I followed the continuity through the fuse box - no problem. Followed all the cables back to the column switch - no problem.

Looking at the wiring diagram it showed that the main beam circuit shares its fuse with the interior lighting (which also didn't work). So I stripped down the drivers door to see if the cable had been trapped somewhere and was shorting out. No, it was fine. So I stripped down the passenger door to see what was going on. It was then that I relised that the little red light in the door reveal was missing and the terminals were taped up. Hmmm, I thought, maybe I should strip off the tape and see whats inside. So what did I find.........The positive and negitive connectors had been taped up together which of course was shorting out the whole system and blowing the fuses. So after separating the connectors I now have main beam and also interior lights.

The previous owner was a useless electrician, mind you if it wasn't for his incompetence I wouldn't have been able to buy the car so cheap.

The next problem to sort out is the central locking which doesn't work, - so watch this space.

Damn, red light in the door is connected to the headlights.....well, that's good to know.

If this can help, my central locking system wasn't working either. Neither was the radio and the fuse was removed. When I put a fuse back im, the radio came on and the car was off and the central locking system started working again.

The fruitcup before me plugged the radio to a live instead of an acc wire therefore could not figure out why when he turned the car off the radio drained his batt. So they removed the radio fuse. But both battery and locking system are connected on the same fuse.

    Hey Mario

Thanks for that piece of information. Where would we be without the forum ?

With mine the central locking works on the passenger side but not the drivers side. The previous owner took the whole car apart to get it resprayed and forgot how to put it back together. So I bought it cheap.

I have had a few cars like that, my best buy was a 58 Buick Limited in perfect shape bodywise but I had to repair everything mechanical from the wheels up. I dispair at what incompetent people do to cars (and bikes), I wonder how many vehicles have hit the scrap yard because of incompetent owners.
