Fisker is having battery issues as well. I too am shocked that BA would get their tit in a wringer with batterys but if they can others can as well.

**** emission regulations. Supercars should have a pass from those stupid regulations. I don't care if trees die behind me , as long as my car goes fast.
Ferrari should ignore those stupid regulations and just build cars. We will still buy them, nobody can stop us.

And having an opinion like that is the reason we're gonna end up driving 0.5l super diesel hybrids, or whatever..

You can't say "I don't care if trees die behind me , as long as my car goes fast."
You paraphrase it to. "I pay so much tax on this car, that I actually help the ecology around it, and should be exempt from these regulations as the carbon footprint/tax paid is so miniscule..." for example. :D

P.S. I do agree that low series (<1000) hyper-cars should be exempt from pollution regulations, as the entire run of (600mil worth of) F70s polutes a hell of a lot less then a 600mil worth of Toyota Priuses

Exactly! Like Jay Leno says, 'If everyone buys a hybrid, there's a better chance that we will be able to keep building fun cars.' :D

That´s an interesting use of lateral thinking.

Just out of curiosity: are you a lawyer or a politician?

Not allowed to click pictures I assume?

The numbers are astounding and going by what you said, if the numbers are only going to get better, the P1 has some serious competition. Any word about the downforce the F150 can generate?

Jim as somebody with knowledge in this field, is this the same reason why the aeroplanes where recently grounded because of an issue with a lithium battery if I remember correctly ( can't remember the name of plane sorry ).
Just a local police station was partially burned down when a camera lithium battery was left on
charge unattended. , and I know there has been a couple of incidents regarding iPhone batteries too.

My question is : is this the nature of new technologies pushing boundaries with regards to battery performances or is it an area moving too quickly over a short period of time.

I agree with extinguisher kits fitted to the cars, and in light of recent news regarding lithium batteries on charge I never leave them on charge unattended now.

    IMO a bit of both.

Yes this what has grounded the Dreamliner Airplanes.

Like someone said above, batteries are piece of technology that must be engineered & produced in proper way to work without problems! I assume that Ferrari have great experience with batteries that are under very high pressure, since KERS was originally engineered for F1. Also, they placed special composites in area where batteries are located for proper reason. Honestly I think that future F70 owners dont need to be worried that much. However, Napolis have very good point about reading manuals, checking vehicle condition, and placing very good fire system in car. These actions should be MUST for all supercar owners.

As opposed to that lightweight 4WD system they use? :p
Not to mention that the CF Aventador is actually heavier than the aluminium F12... ;)

Nobody I've talked to seems to know exactly how much downforce it will generate.
Does it come close to the P1 ? Does is generate more ?

Can any of those that have already seen the car give us a hint ? I'm not talking about actual numbers, just a comparison/estimate.

    More? I don't think so.

P1 numbers are starting to come in.

"6 seconds faster than a GT3 12c round the Catalunya Race Course."

Which gives a 1:43-1:45 lap time roughly.

Which means my P1 Ring Time Guess of 6:55 wasn't too bad...

At the ring we were a touch faster than the McLaren GT3's and did a 6:51.

If true that puppy is VERY fast.

If anything the downforce they claim is less than it really makes.

If the P1 is faster by 6 than a Gt3 car, it will be much faster than the F70 as the Ferrari is not faster than a 458C around fiorano..

That's quite interesting, 458C as in the 458 Challenge car or the 458 GTE or the 458 GT3?

What? That seems way too quick, how could it be THAT much quicker than a track dedicated race car with slicks? I find that really hard to believe, 6 seconds?

He's referring to the Challenge car, "458C". However, if it's that much faster than a 12C GT3 it's still quicker than a 458GT3 as well.

Challenge. The F70 is said to be a 1.20 car vs 1.16 for the 458C. Even if you add 1/2s for slicks, it's still slower by 2 seconds despite having 400+hp and same weight.

The Track time that both Jim and I were told in Pebble about the P1 was that it was quicker than GT3 Car substanially in testing.

Just clarifying, the 458C has less downforce than the GT cars but more power so would be closer to the sort of straight line speed the F70 should have.
