ROCK ON DOUG!!!!!
On the rear bar, can the bar angle towards the heim joint more then bend back to line up with the heim joint and stay on the inside for someone with wider tires? All Thread Rods - Grade 8 ATR on Interstate Threaded Products
I *have* wide tires, on 17"X8" rims, tucked under the fender; the tires/wheels will hit the rear springs before they hit the sway bar. You still don't want all thread, the bending moment is too great, bolts or all thread., the heims need to be close to the sway bars. Doug
Things here are looking good! Where are we on the total buy count? I may jump in if 20+ is in sight. Bob
I measured the distance between my rear tires and the springs and get about 1" clearance, the distance between the bolt head and tire on the wider rear bar is about 2". Unless you somehow move your rear springs inboard, there will be no issues with the rear bar and wide tires. On the front bar, those with stock wheels will have no wheel bar interference issues once the bar is adjusted to clear the tie rod ends. I am working with ADDCO to make sure there is no wheel bar issue with wider 8" rims. Probably have to cut the front bar also to see if wheels go to lock before they hit the bar. At least I will have some nice bar stock for lathe fodder with the cut bars. Doug
I have finally hooked up with someone from ADDCO, and the shipping (UPS, I think) is $375 to Australia (I'm keen, but not that keen). Does anybody have experience with OS shipping? I don't mind if takes 6 months by camel, but $375 kind of defeats the purpose for me.
Just spoke with John. He's emailing me the head count. Regardless of where we're actually at, I pushed him to give our group the lower rate. Not only will several more people come in, but Doug is doing a ton of work to assist them!
thats great Matt. thanks to you and Doug. is there a way to double check we are on the list, ie: maybe post the names of the folks who are in so we know for sure? or post fchat usernames to keep private... i know i called a while back, but sometimes ya never know for sure.
These bars should fit like gloves, and be capable for stock and non stock shocks, tires and wheels. I ended up using the factory metal rubber bushing retainers on the front, as the supplied ones with the bars will not fit unless a bunch of trimming is done on the retainers. I will probably use the factory retainers on back also, as they are more compact. They seem to compress and hold the bushings properly. Doug
If ADDCO can hang in there with the lower price over time, I can envision yearly 10-20 pc. group buys if they (or someone here on Fchat) posts an ad reminder of the bars availability. There are still thousands of 3x8's out there......
15 if Doug gives the all clear, and they perform as expected. I'm stockpiling upgrade parts for the 79 GTS I still haven't bought yet.
No new bars yet, though they have reconfigured them based on the drawings they sent me. Probably be a few weeks. Doug
