Rossa Corsa on RAL chart

Does anyone know the closest match to Rossa Corsa on the standard RAL color chart? I'm trying to determine which to get for a powder coating project.

As you may know, I recently started offering my Plate Clips in black. I'm powder coating them to provide the best quality finish. I had a person request a Plate Clip to be painted Rossa Corsa today. I can get it close if I can track down a red powder that is available. I just do not know which of the reds on the chart will be closest.

This sight notes two colors of interest

Rossa Corsa Rosso corsa / #d40000 Hex Color Code Schemes, Charts, Palettes, Paints & RGB / CMYK / HSL Conversion

40000 looks much darker

Do we know what the factory or shops used back then and for resprays now?

40000 is RAL 3020, which indeed is much darker than RAL 3024.

At the risk of stating the obvious:
Trouble is that "Rosso Corsa" is not a defined and agreed color, like some colors are in the minds of aircraft modelers for instance, for camouflage schemes. To quote just one example, any modeler worth the name knows that the color called "non specular sea blue" as used on US Navy aircrafts during WW II and after is "Federal Standard 15042", period.

But we all know that Rosso Corsa is a only a generic name for the standard "red" used at any period of time at Ferrari, but does NOT refer to a precise and strictly defined color.
The standard "red" offered by Ferrari, called "Rosso Corsa", has evolved a lot, and continues to do so:
During the eighties, for our cars, it went from "Rosso Corsa", to "Rosso Corsa 300", then "Rosso Corsa 300/6", then "Rosso Corsa 300/9", then "Rosso Corsa 300/12".
Each time, with each new number, it went a bit brighter and a bit more orange in hue.
During the sixties, the standard red was indeed even darker.

So there is just no standard color called "Rosso Corsa", and besides, I doubt that Glidden Salchi and Glasurit made public in the time the match of the color to any agreed standard as RAL, or Pantone, or Methuen, or Federal Standard. I have made some research in the past on the Internet, I didn't find anything conclusive, only "guesstimates" made by modelers, mainly.

On the other hand, no doubt that anybody with the correct tools or a keen eye would be able to match a sample of the period-correct "Rosso Corsa" (either as new, or faded by time) to a reference system; not me, as I am somewhat color blind...

By the way, we would have the same discussion for "British Racing Green", which could be "any green close to Brunswick green"...

Thanks for the in depth response. I get it more now. I guess we'll all be winging it on a match effort each time we do a project, which is fine. Eye matching sounds to be the standard. We will do the best we can on each individual effort. My car, for one, was resprayed by the first owner (I'm the 5th) and he added some blue to the mix to make it more to his liking. It made it slightly darker, hinting of purple (so he says but I don't see it). It is still in good shape and actually really looks good to me. I guess the point is he did it the way he liked it, but without going too far off OEM. However, if I ever redo it, I will get as close to Rossa Corsa 300 as I can, which is what the car was originally painted at the factory, to get back total OEM, a goal I'm constantly striving for on my car.

I don't want to jinx your efforts, but your car being of french origins needs a "Charles Pozzi" sticker, gluing from the inside on the rear window, exactly in the middle between the two headrests to be exactly as it was when sold new.
Most french Ferraristis take great care to preserve theirs (other just take these away...).
If the car was sold by Pozzi themselves (in Paris or around), the sticker is only marked Charles Pozzi; if sold by one of their regional dealership in one of the french regions, the sticker has the name of the dealership indicated as well.
These are NLA for a long time and very sought after...

And as for paint, you will go for same quality, that is "single stage", not clear coated?

Yes, most definitely single stage, as it is now (and respray was). Except when I replaced the Euro spoiler, the local paint shop did a 2 stage on it, against my initial instructions to maintain the single stage condition. The shop guys just did their SOP. It looks very good so I let it go.

My car has the whole Pozzi label thing in the engine bay. But I did not know about the rear window sticker. The first owner had the car imported to the USA from France when it was new. Would the dealer put a sticker on new export too? If so I'd like to find a copy/duplicate to stick on, if it is an authentic component to a French Euro exported to the USA.

My guess is that it would have it, yes; that yellow sticker is really a hallmark of Pozzi, which were very respected in their heydays, as members of the first "ring" of names associated with Ferrari in the world, just as were Maranello Concessionaires for U.K, Garage Francorchamps in Belgium, etc...the yellow Pozzi sticker is part of the identity of a french Ferrari until the end of the nineties.
Originals Pozzi stickers are really very, very difficult to find; you won't find these on E-bay, for instance. There are a few reproductions around, quality varies from nice to very poor in dimensions, exact script, etc.
I have a rather good reproduction on my 328 GTB, which was sold by Pozzi directly in Paris in 1989; the original owner took great care to get the Pozzi sticker off, and it took me a few years to find a correct repro and glue it back on!
It's funny how silly we can get for those cars, to the point of looking for exact reproduction for a yellow sticker, (that should also have the glue on its printed side, so as to be glued from the inside).
I'll see if I can find one.

Yes, send me any info or examples you can on it. I am fair with Photoshop and could clean up a sample digital file if necessary. Even if I get one close till a better one is found, it would help on points at local shows.....at least it may not hurt? Judges out there...comments? LOL!
