Not a problem. The way they are talking in the US senate, they might be building a wall between us soon. They seem to think that the border to the north of them is as bad as the border to the south. If you hear some of the elected officials in the US, you would think that Canada was another North Korea. Last year they even imposed a tax on us when we fly into their country. 20 or so years ago we got NAFTA and we thought the border was going to be wide open and no more duties and taxes. Since then our 2 countries have headed in opposite directions.

Yeah! Wow, firing at armoured tanks (even with an assault rifle) really would have turned things around, hey?

On the other hand, in 1947 the Communists with sfa armaments pushed the heavily armed Nationalists off the mainland and we won't mention the guns the Vietcong DIDN'T have.

In many ways i blame the TianAnMen Square protest for turning China into the ***** hole it is today!!

those damn students had no idea what freedom is, no idea what democracy is and worst, they were doing exactly what they were supposedly opposing.

and to imagine these idiots all had guns! Culture revolution happening all over again.

I recall that Oscar has a temper issue. When he got beaten in the para he went orf. Lots of accusations etc. I can't remember the detail but I do recall that I thought he had some anger and mental issues. We have NO idea what happened but looking at his previous behavior that I saw on TV it does not surprise me. Poor lady. Difficult case with no witnesses etc. And of course SA is awash with guns. Mental issues and guns. What could possibly go wrong?

Not to re-stir the pot but Canada has been charging an exit tax at the border for how long?

It's called the Canada Departure Tax, and it's pretty steep. If you want to leave, and not come back as a Canadian citizen. So, Canadians coming to the US pay a hefty fee to Canada, and yet, they still cross the border.

Preparing to Exit Canada for the United States?

not to mention the border crossing fee, eh? Last year my kid went to Canada for the GP race, they charged him $10 per occupant of his car, when they wanted to leave Canada.

Sooo . . . who has the most egregious border policy? Eh?

One of the main reasons the USA is in such deep dodo is because there are million who like you who just dont want to see reallity, sort of like the many who sat on the titanic knowing it would never sink. Yes google can be your friend or it can be your enemy. As for your son and his friends returning to the USA from the Canadian GP, makes me wonder if you have ever crossed the border. I cross it a few times a year and did so yesterday. You see, when crossing into the USA one does not stop on the Canadian side. Your first stop is when you get to the American side and the very first person you see is the US customs officer. Now did he take your kids money?
Below are some links for you to read.

Why Are People Leaving the US | Expat Yourself!

Research Data and Articles on How to Leave America

To Make America Great Again, We Need to Leave the Country - Elliot Gerson - The Atlantic

You say that more Canadians go to the USA to live than vise versa. Makes me wonder where you got your figures from when I found this and I quote. Its an excerpt from usnews.com below.
    http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2008/07/28/a-growing-trend-of-leaving-america

"Exactly how many people are part of this trend is hard to say. Precise emigration figures have never been easy to come by in the United States. "It's been an implicit assumption that people come here to stay, not to come and go," says Mike Hoefer, head of the Office of Immigration Statistics at the Department of Homeland Security. The government's last trial effort to count Americans overseas, in 1999, was deemed inordinately expensive. Elizabeth Grieco, chief of immigration statistics at the U.S. Census Bureau, puts it bluntly: "We don't count U.S. citizens living abroad."

Finally found some logic about guns :p

(stolen from the joke thread in silver)

Top Ten Reasons Why Men Prefer Guns Over Women

    And here we go...

    #10 - You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.

#9 - You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road.

#8 - If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.

#7 - Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

#6 - Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

    #5 - A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4 - Guns function normally every day of the month.

#3 - A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2 - A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the Number One reason Why Men Prefer Guns over women.....

#1 - You can buy a silencer for a gun

Three people were killed and at least four others were hurt in a car-to-car shooting and crash overnight on the Las Vegas Strip, police said.

A person in a black Range Rover Sport opened fire on a Maserati at about 4:20 a.m. as the cars traveled north in front of the Strip's Bellagio and Bally's casinos, said Officer Jose Hernandez, a police spokesman.

The Range Rover fled the scene.

The driver of the Maserati lost control of the car and crashed into a taxi, which burst into flames. The Maserati, which had a passenger, struck another four cars, he said.

The drivers of the Maserati and the taxi were killed, as was a passenger in the taxi. The Maserati passenger and three others were taken to a hospital.

There was no known motive for the shooting, Hernandez said. The Strip was partly shut down after the shooting.

Hernandez said police had received "quite a few" calls about the shooting, which meant there were multiple witnesses.

"The Strip is a busy place," he said. "It's truly a 24-hour town, and that means we'll get help with investigating this incident."

I like how the thread has now gone to armour plating/safeguarding your ride, then trying to blow a hole in the product you've fitted...................

well maybe not QUITE in that order but you know what I mean.

I cannot understand the argument"It's not about the gun" or"It's not the guns' fault"

Anyway,it certainly alter's your way of thinking if you were planning a vacation in the US.

One of the prime examples of why gun owners are often called "gun nuts" are guys like this.

Dr. Ignatius Piazza own a gun training facility in Nevada. His emailed rants are pretty amazing. Here's a link to his latest one.

Guess who told John Lott, Americans should not own guns...

now about a couple quotes for those who don't have the inclination to read his entire babble.

This in reference to the recent mass killing in Connecticut.

And believe me, this guy's views are VERY popular, as is his training site.

Scary? Yes, even for a guy like me who owns handguns and believes that reasonable adults should be allowed to own them.

But these are the loudest voices here. Reasonable voices are not being heard. The extremes, on both sides of this discussion are carrying the conversation.

    UGH.

Hey, is it expensive to live in Australia? :D
