For a photographer, hope he understand that such an obtrusive copyright notice will effective destroy the beauty of his photo and renders the picture worthless in term of art. I am sorry for being honest...

    And Thanks ragtop for trying.

Could you at least ask him to mock up the poster with his copyright? Maybe it would be placed in a discreet location, close to the edge.

Yea, he's getting exposure. All negative. For someone that most have never heard of before, he surely is proud of someone's else's work that he may or may not have rights to sell. Copyright is simple to protect. Small lettering along the border so no print shop will copy it. You can never stop people from copying but he missed out on selling something that probably hasn't moved in a long time.

Surprise, we are dropping like flies with oversized lettering that's ruining a great print and charging way too much.

Dr., any luck finding your prints and are they copyrighted?

If he did not take the photo, as some suggest...then he has purchased the copyright....

Much as Peter Sachs has purchased the works of Klementaski, cited in his response.

That also establishes "market value" in his mind and as he states "the real money" would be in licensing for magazine or book use, going forward. He does not care about "thirty Ferrari owners"...he wants the Big Pay Day.

Everything is copyrighted, really, the only prohibition is against further duplication and distribution 'for profit'.

It would take less than two hours editing, digitally to take all of those watermarks off.
Then a run of color hi res digital copies on archival paper would be....oh, $815.00

    Plus or minus....:D :D :D

The last commercial (328 and TR) was made only months (or less) before his passing....R.I.P.

Ragtop1, thanks so much for putting so much time and effort into this... It's really appreciated! Like everyone else, I'm out under the current terms... I would still consider it if the copyright notice was inobtrusive...

    Mine are not copyrighted.

He is the problem. If/when I do find them I don't think I have more than a couple now that I have been thinking about it. That's mine (framed one here) and two more. I just don't see myself buying too many even at $5. $20 tops for maybe 4.

So, let's just assume that just leaves two. Who gets them or do I just copy mine if they never turn up? If I copy mine for a few of you guys, do I go straight to jail? Do I get sued for a billion dollars?

No problem Tarik. I just fired off an email to Bob requesting a sample with the copyright text placement.

That sucks. Oh well. The steep price and copyright placement are deal breakers for me too.

I want to thank ragtop as well. It is hard being the point of contact, especially when it goes south.

One other option you can present to Bob since it looks like most are opting out... sell the license to one of the poster shops. They print, distribute, collect money and he makes a small profit for doing nothing.

Dr. Tommy, don't put on ebay, that makes it way to visible to those copyright lawyers. Don't want to see you get in any trouble. Hopefully this isn't dead yet.

    Happy Birthday Enzo!

If Tommy has legitimate prints from a previous license holder (it seems that Bob didn't take these pictures), then he can sell them wherever he likes.

That is what I was thinking. If it is an original - that I OWN - and have not duplicated, I am not in violation of any copyright laws.

Regardless of copyright placement, I'm out at that price. It's just way too much money for what is essentially a very inexpensive proposition these days. I don't deny the man a profit (he had to pay *something* for the copyright), just don't make it all on me!

    Hi Larry,

I've attached a lo-res image of my photo of Enzo Ferrari, containing the minimum copyright text that I'm willing to provide. Also, each print will be delivered with documentation stating the print is for personal use only, and no reproduction is permitted.

I might be less insistent with other, less singular photographs. But this is an unusual image, taken under very restrictive circumstances, and I'm quite aggressive about protecting the value of this photograph.

The prints would be uncropped, full-frame images -- meaning the 16x20 prints will have small borders around the image area.

    Thanks again for your interest,

    Bob Harmeyer

Interesting. Did anyone notice that it's not actually the same shot as the original print? The framing is different.

I wonder if it's the same negative?

The copyright notice is fine there, I think.

Good eyes. Yes, it appears to be an alternative shot from that photo shoot; this one is rotated slightly to the right. I'm good with the copyright. I'd pay money for that.

It is the same shot. Bob says:
You are seeing the full frame uncropped image in his thumbnail.

He has come to his senses. His copyright notice is now more or less in proportion.
