Alternator Tensioner Bearing Failed! Help!!!

    I found out something interesting today. It seems that to save money, Ricambi sells the threaded pin from Hill Engineering and it is brass color. The rep told me that the Ferrari bolt is over $325. The Hill Engineering bolt is $80. So, Ricambi is going to research and find out if Hill Engineering even makes the one for my car (1995 2.7) will have to wait and see.

    Digged half a day at my storage just cant seem to find that piece. I have the alternator but cant locate the bracket and the bolt that I remembered I stashed somewhere.

    Ordered the threaded pin from N.J and it arrived yesterday. I reassembled everything yesterday and started the car, checked voltage and it was charging at 14.35. Test drove car and no lights on the dash. After returning home I restarted the car and got a minor squeal. I am guessing I need to tension the belt a bit more. Will do that today and test drive.

    Many thanks to all who helped me through this, you guys are the best!

    I will post a complete DIY thread complete with pics later.

    When driving at a steady speed on the highway, close all your windows. The bearing takes a long time to blow out but years before it goes, you will hear a bit of a low howling or drone coming from the engine right behind the drivers seat. To some this might sound normal because it does it for a long time before it goes. The sound it makes just before it completely blows must be scary.

    The belt started smoking then broke. No warning was noticeable. I suggest changing the bearing & the adjustment bolt every major service.

    You could if it makes you feel good but these take a long time to go and the main reason they go is because many over tighten the adjuster in hopes that the squeaky belt goes away instead of changing the belt. If one really wants to avoid this, I would change the bearing every 3rd engine out or just wait for it to fail if it even does. The fix is not too hard.......the second time around. :)

    You're probably right. Every 3rd major replace the parts.
    I just remember fixing the damn thing with the engine in. Horrible.
