Rubber floor mats

The rubber heel pads are sewn direct onto the carpets without any vinyl edging. There is a natural ridgeline around the inner edge of each rubber insert to use for the stitching lines which I've highlighted in red on your photo.

is that a thin vinyl material or 1-2 mm thick rubber?
wrt the binding, i believe that only applies to the narrow ribbed heel pads, see the above red carpet photos.
the wide ribbed heel pads are sewn directly to the carpet without a binding.

Good point. The originals are pliable vinyl as opposed to thick rubber.

 

luppi has the correct pliable thin vinyl wide ribbed material.

anyone have a source for the thin pliable narrow ribbed heel pads as seen in the red carpet photos above? i would ask luppi, but they are very slow to respond. can anybody in that time zone call luppi?

Yes, it is model related I believe. As production ramped up Ferrari appear to have altered the spec's on various items to either speed up production for suppliers or, and more likely, reduce costs and improve their own margins. The majority of E series cars have the pads sewn directly into the mats without any additional vinyl binding around the edges. Matthias may be able to offer advice on when this may have happened but going from my own cars it certainly was the case from February 1972 production. My December 1971 car is missing it's original mats so I cannot confirm if they were the same type.
