change the avatar on the other forum...welcome to 2013... seeing is believing let s see if that downforce is true... I do not think Ron is such a good driver...
That's stupid fast. The Huayra did a 1:13.8, FXX (not street legal) did a 1.10.7, and the Lotus T125 (not street legal) did a 1:03.8.
Napolis - are you sure Ron drove the P1 this quick, or did Ron just tell you he did? I would think it was Chris Goodwin. I don't think Ron is that quick... Or if he is, the P1 is outrageously fast.
He said he did. I agree that if he did P1 is very fast. My NS Ring guess for P1 remains at 6:55. Ferrari says F70 will be below 7 on the NS.
We should remember to Ron that Top Gear lap times are from STANDING START I'm ready to eat my hat if the P1 will lap dunsfold under 1:05 C'mon guys ...
Here was Ron's statement made yesyerday Ron Dennis - "I drove the P1 around Top Gear's Dunsfold test track and beat the lap record by 10 seconds."
So, Ron's big first statement about why to buy this car is exclusivity? Let me see.... it's rare so I should buy one. Got it. Next. Ah... I can drive it 20 miles in town on electric. Something I always wanted to do with a 1.3 Million dollar car. Next. Well the tires are specially made by Pirelli! Next. "A very affordable price. It's clearly affordable" Is this the new McLaren super car or did Yugo bring an electric to market?
Well, imagine you just bought the new Ferrari LF, only to discover that 3 people on your street bought the same car. How embarrassing! This way you can avoid that social faux pas.
Hey, the guy needs to sell the f*ing car, what did you want him to say? Actually I´m amazed that Ron managed to say something coherent instead of the infamous ronspeak he used in Formula 1.
Yes. The key word for this car is "exclusivity" (not perfromance) Surely, Ron must be upset that the new Lambo, then, steals all the McLaren thunder ... according to Ron, Lambo > McLaren. now I finally understand why McLaren made their battery pack so damn heavy! (50% heavier than Ferrari's, if memory serves) weak sauce from McLaren ...
Very High Downforce cars are a lot easier to drive fast. I'm not much of a driver either but in P 4/5 C with 2800lb of downforce and 2.8G+ of lateral acceleration I'm a lot faster than in other cars. The main problem is getting your head around how fast you car go in them. The first time I drove P 4/5 Mika came over after I tried a few laps and said: Come down the straight flat out. Don't brake for the first turn at all. At the second you're braking at 200. Keep going to 50. Stand on the brake for 3 seconds, downshift 3 gears turn, straighten out and then stand on it.
That's quite a fast lap. I remember the Renault F1 car from 2004 did 59 seconds in damp condition, at the time the engineers thought the car can do 52 seconds in dry conditions. So the P1 is only 13 seconds slower in a relatively short lap, meaning it is not much slower than a Le Mans prototypes really?
They did set out to make an LMP for the road. If the time Ron gave is true and the report of 6s under GT3's at Barcelona F1 is correct P1 will be VERY fast around a track.
I woundn't take anything that Ron says seriously. Remember this is the same Ron that was fined 50 millions by the FIA for lying through his teeth, amongst others. He used to say the same things about the MP4 12C and we all know what happened in the end. Only independent tests with the same type of tyres (i.e. no Trofeo semis vs normal P Zeros) will reveal the truth.
Just reading that makes my neck hurt. I can't imagine the forces going through a driver's body throughout an entire race.
