    Jim,

You got an amazing car, it will need headers, possibly valve guides going forward - however you have a few cars and only plan to drive this sparingly if I recall. That might be in 5-10 years - You are the right type of owner for this car - and you also bought a cream puff, red tan car.

    best of luck with it,

    AK

Thats because its very hard to do. On one hand they like you to know that the 30k service was done only 2000miles ago butbut on the other hand if they tell you it was done 4 years ago then it means nothing and if they tell you it was done last year then one starts wondering why there are so few miles on the car if there were 2000 put on in the last year. BTW this car also has more miles on it than they care to show you. Too many things show me that in those pics. My guess is that this car is in the low to mid 30k range minimum.

It's not hard to do. You just put the facts in the ad. The time since last major service is one of the most important facts that people want to know. If the dealers don't mind wasting our time I guess we shouldn't worry about waring their time kicking the tires on cars we have no intention of buying.

Andrew, I have enjoyed the car, although I do use it sparingly as you remembered. I have a custom set of headers that are being finished for the car and they will be put on when I have the major done. Thanks again for discussing the car with me before I had purchased it.:) All the best.

Agreed but telling the "facts" on most 355s wont sell them. These dealers dont care about those of us that know what we are looking at. They want someone that knows only one thing..."I want a Ferrari" and that guy will pay now and curse later.

Gerry you have some balls to make a statement with no facts that the car has more miles than the OD states. I sure hope you can back this up, which I doubt you can.

This is why you have zero credibility in my eyes.

Your not too far away from Toronto. Why dont you come up here for a drive sometime and you will learn a few things from people who know the cars right from design. Believe me I can tell when a car has had the miles rolled back. Its not hard when you have seen hundreds of them, maybe thousands now. In Canada we are much stricter than in the USA on the rolling back of odos. The fines are very stiff and a dealers papers can be revoked. In Canada these cars can only be driven 7 to 8 months of the year at best and in most of the states that these US "low miles" cars are coming from, they can be driven year round. Why is it that almost all the 355s being sold by dealers in these warm states have low miles on them while in Canada they are much higher? Does this not bother you? When I look at the pictures of these cars, I can see what is being shown and what the seller is not showing by cropping pictures and simply not taking pics of certain areas of the car. I look at many things on a car and If I see it in person, I can usually guess the kilometers or mileage of a car within a couple thou. If you choose to avoid reality then good for you. I like to know exactly what Im looking at and possibly buying. Rolling back odos on these cars has become a huge money maker in the last 5 years.

    Gerry,

I don't deny that OD's get rolled back. But, you may think it's been done but to determine this from photos is very subjective and it's not a great idea to state it's been done with no facts - that's my point.

And yes, I live about 1.5 hours from Toronto (well maybe 3 hours these days with the traffic LOL) and I am actually looking to go to the F1 race this year in Montreal (and drive my car there with a buddy) so maybe we can meet up then if you are going.

My car is a very low mile car, 9870 when I bought it and I know for a fact it's the true miles. I've got lots of proof and detail to back it up. So, they do exist and the car in this add is not really super low miles.

So the answer is they aren't stupid or lazy, they are hiding something. I guess it doesn't pay to be upfront and honest in the car business.

Oh it does pay but only in the long run when you have many repeat buyers. Many of these dealers just want the money and they want it now. Also a dealer that does not service what they sell isnt worth a pinch of C--- S--t.

Well, the red/tan 355 in Dallas sold. Guess we'll never know for how much, unless the new buyer (assuming it wasn't another dealer) shows up here.

This car is rough, with sticky, bubbly interior and questionable history.

No way is it a $63k car on the market. My guess is they paid <$45k and are trying to snap a quick (sizeable) profit, which is fine by me, as I wouldn't buy THAT car :)

They, too, realize that $60k+ is a dream and will sell at a number considerably lower, or will have her in stock for some time...

Although I purchased my car last Friday, I received this email just now on the red car:

"It's due for the 30k service. It also has Headers, Hi-Flow cats, and Tubi Mufflers.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy Williams
    Sales Manager

So my guess is that their buyer fell through and it is back on the market again.

Not revive a war but they have relisted the car and now for 5 grand more. I doubt a major was performed, but I'm guessing by the questions asked, and the knowledge they feel they have about this car that now they are trying to inflate.

It's ashame. It looks to be in decent condition. While I am just starting my due diligence of research for my future (3-6 years realistically) purchase I do find this tactic alarming.

I have to agree with both parties in the debate. I am one to buy 95% of my vehicles from enthusiasts the other 5% would be new from dealers ( daily commuters/work related vehicles). At the ripe young age of 29 I see this car as a concern, granted in a price range that is obtainable, but at what cost? Does it need 20k tomorrow? Maybe not, but it will need sufficient investment. Always a factor in anything you purchase. Much like a house you can buy a cheaper house and invest money into it, or you can buy one that someone else took the time for you. Depends on your situation, and what you feel comfortable with.

My main purpose for this post was as a "newbie" as I am not tied to the 355 community with a lot of emotion, because I currently don't nor have I ever owned one.

I hope I didn't stray to far off course and that this post is somewhat related. Please continue to provide the great information that you guys do. So that way future owners like myself have a great starting point when considering such a large purchase.

    Regards,
    Brandon

I wish I was in the market currently but am not (unless a rediculous unrealistic offer was out there) I am simply starting my research and my due diligence like I would with any car purchase. Though I currently have the means to purchase, maintaining at this current moment is not something I could do. And I am ok with knowing those facts. I do know that when I am ready for complete ownership I will have all the knowledge needed and be able to afford it.

Again thanks for everyone's posts on here learning new stuff every day about these gorgeous cars.

It was probably everybody on this thread emailing them at once - they then thought "wow, with all of this interest, we better raise the price."

You're doing it the right way, these cars aren't impulse buys unless you have enough money to where the purchase price is insignificant.
