    Hi,

Is it necessary to retighten the cylinder heads bolts after 1000 - 1500 km when the engine has been rebuild ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Best regards

    Gildas

Gildas, I have not gotten to that point, but I am willing to wager that yes, it will need to be retorqued as most engine heads of the era do.
You might look in the tech book or ask the engine builder. You can also try posting in the 'Technical' section.

    Regards, Alberto

We did after about 10 hours of running on the engine stand. The important thing in my estimation was the 6 temperature cycles from cold to operating temp before re-torquing.

Despite rthe efforts they weren't out by much

depends on what headstuds and headgasket you are using

I re did mine after approx 10 heat cycles on the stand . I ran the engine for approx 20 mins each time. I spoke to Ron at Superformance and he said that he has never tightened them after a rebuild ( he has done 99 engines last count) . So he knows what he is talking about. I did mine anyway as I had some coolant seepage that I wanted to make sure that stopped . I re torqued the heads and they did stop. I am absolutely certain that I torqued them properly the 1st time and was equally careful they second time. It was an enormous pain in the @ss to do. Nonetheless I am glad that I did it.

I ran my engine on the floor for about 10 hours over the course of several days and then pulled the cam covers to re-check tappet clearance and re-torque the heads. Re-torquing is cheap insurance. It's good to run in the engine out of the car as it is so much easier to detect and fix leaks, balance the carbs, adjust the timing and whatever else needs tweaking. Hopefully you can then put it in the car and have trouble free motoring for a good while.

I used dinoparts gaskest and studs. the engine did around 7 hours over a few days on a stand and then I checked the torque settings of the stud nuts. Several of them moved. A huge pain but worth it just so I can sleep.

You have just reminded me - when I came to fit them I was suspicious of differences in the dimensions of the threaded portions from the originals - I sent them back (paid the heavy handling charge) and got superformance ones! I used their gasket because they where available in different thickness's.

good that you sent them back they are really bad, the only good part he sell is the head gasket, superformance head studs are very good, now you have a good combination and you can spank your engine really hard
