They threw the book at this one, carbon fibre flippers/diffuser/side skirts etc..up for £281k in the UK, only posting the pics here as think they may help people spec'ing etc...I quite like the wheels & carbon side panels etc, just about the nicest white one I have seen, thought it deserved its own thread!

Would have loved it without the rocker panel in carbon. I dont understand that option, makes the car looks like it's getting repainted.

I dont know, the rocker panel to me is it a bit like the carbon rear, at first didnt lke it at all, but the more I look at these things the more I start to like them..blame kingmonkey for converting me on the rocker panels!

From not liking it,now when I see one without it starts to look a bit bare!

WHo fought the side panel in carbon looked good? The side view is really messy, especially with the top up. I like black wheels but these are not the prettiest design. After all its better to leave things alone....

    I concur.

    Top up, looks bad.

    Top down, looks okay.

They needed to round the piece or only go up as high as the flare in the door.

I "wrapped" rocker panels on my coupe and followed lines of car. Allot lest expensive and imo does not disturb natural appearance of car. The spider carbon fiber seems to change the "shape" of the car and imo looks like it has been "added on". Still, a beautiful car. Best

The rear wheels on the original posted 458 look too small... otherwise, that car is amazing.

Nice 458 except for the C/F rocker panel moldings but to each his own I guess.

I am on the fence...find it a bit odd that kingmonkey got huge thumbs up for his though and yet in this thread the rocker panels get a negative response..maybe due to the colour differance I wonder

I think, for the most part, this is a polite forum. Kingmonkey showed pictures of his and some people liked it, and said so. Those who didn't, held back, because it was his car. You made it clear, in the first post, that this was not you car and so people feel more at liberty to speak their mind. Secondly, a couple of thumbs down tends to bring out those who feel the same way.

I for one hate every cut line on a car, any car. And the straight ones are the worst, because they show where the manufacturer chose to be "cheap" by using two panels instead of one.

Granted they are required where there are moving body parts, but why bring attention to cut lines with different materials and colors?

Exactly what I would do, the other way really throws off the lines of the car, especially on the 16m.

Your right bob...I think my choice would be just the contrasting sill, not the panel, ala RBK's pic above.

Funny you mention the panel join thing, as that is one aspect that slightly err's me on the F12 design, just dont like the 'join' of the wing to the bonnet, would be lovely if it swooped and flowed without the join, but I suppose that would be too tricky manufacture wise?

I agree, don't like the carbon side panel. Car looks unfinished. As if they forgot to paint panel. The rest of car is fine. Don't understand why Ferrari would have this option, other than to make more money.

+1. A great explanation of the diplomacy practiced by our forum members, and of the dictation of design by economic forces. The older Ferraris (such as my Dinos) had various body panels welded together, but they were basically hand-made, in relatively much smaller numbers, and before the advent of crush zones and safety bumpers. Things change, of necessity, but design unfortunately suffers in many instances. Ferrari (or rather, PF) did a great job with the 458, but I don't see the point of emphasizing an arbitrary cut line on the body. Fred

This area seems to gather the most road dust on my Spider. Guessing that the black CF would show the dirt more but the paint is protected from scratching from washing and road chips so it may be practical from a maintenance viewpoint.

I would have to see it in person to really make a judgement though.

Influence from the "tuner" car world I suspect. Someone replacing a Honda civic stock hood with a CF one and not painting to match the rest of the car's body.

Where Ferrari did a beautiful job was on the scoop behind the door handles on a 360 Modena. If you compare it to the similar air intake on the side of a 911 Turbo, you can see what a great job Ferrari did. Same thing where the front fenders connect to the small piece that runs across the car between the bumper and the hood (trunk).

So why they didn't do it on the F12 is beyond me.

excellent point again Bob, always hated the Porsche turbo inlets, they just look like a plastic surround has been stuck into the hole, same on a lot of porsche stuff, horrible finish to me, holes & vents & intakes look so much better when they are part of the body as it were..
