Name a worse color than Rosso Corsa

Love my red car, but damn that color is unforgiving. Doing my Spring wax job and I'm amazed how the tiniest swirl mark looks like the bloody Grand Canyon on this finish. My previous cars have usually been white and you can almost have Dorothy Hamill skate across those and it be very hard to see a mark. Not so with Rosso Corsa, it's like your worst teacher: it magnifies every defect and mistake to gargantuan proportions. I have a collection of various polishes and buffing pads to try to get things reasonable before waxing. On the plus side; she sure looks great when finished!

 

Like you said: when they are finished, you cannot beat that look!

I'm getting ready to buy a Rupe's polisher and do my whole car (black). Lot's of tiny swirl scratches but I know mine has never been done so I will have a lot of material (paint) to work with.

 

+2. Lord they look purdy when done rite. They look horrible when neglected.

 

Black is the absolute toughest to look perfect ... had 2 black cars.
Rosso Corsa is tough, but not nearly as tough as black ... had 3 red cars.
White is my favorite daily driver color ... had 5 white cars.

 

+ infinity on black as being the most unforgiving ( color of my current 97' spyder). Silver or a Grigio varient is my choice for most hassle free color.

 

And solid black is way worse than mettalic black

I have to agree with the comments above.

I've been way too busy on the work front to properly care for my all black car (90 348TS with matching roof, lower valence, and door sills). It looks awful at the moment, but I've got all the supplies and fixins to do it right. Now I just need to find the time.

 

Agree... I've tried all sorts of things on my red car including finish first (i think that's the name) which came highly recommended... it streaked the car worse than anything else.

After my major in a few weeks, this season I'm going to experiment with a bunch of different products (much to the chagrin of the g/f) and spend a bunch of time trying to get her (not the g/f) to look really great.

Figure it will be hours of work....

 

Short of doing a paint correction. The easiest way to maintain the appearance of Red or Black paint between detailing is the liberal application of layers of Glaze. Three or four layers followed by a good quality wax will hide just about any sin.

To be honest, I haven't tried it on my Testarossa as I leave that car strictly to the professionals to deal with (it is such a major PITA with all the louvers, vents, etc, its absolutely exhausting!), but I used it liberally on the Mondial and you wouldn't be able to find a swirl in that car with a magna-fine glass!

 

I think you may be right.. I started using just some fast glaze on the car at the end of last driving season and it hide them like a charm. May do more of that this year.
