Hi Stan, I'm looking for a Ferrari that won't feel slower than what I have. Ferrari makes something for everyone and I want performance more than collectability. I have pushed my Corvette to the limit and it is the best car I have ever owned. I love it. To answer questions people asked... I don't modify cars. Once I buy a car I don't like spending more money on it. I know people who modify cars and for what they spend in upgrading a car they could have purchased a second car. I don't enjoy working on cars or waiting for them to come home from the shop. I love driving cars. I think the 575 and 360 are the two that I will look at. They are the most modern of what's available at $100,000 or less.
Increase your budget ever so slightly and get a F430 coupe. The 360 isn't going to do it, not compared to a ZR1, not even close.
I wouldn't trade my 308 for the nicest/best/fastest Corvette ever made. My 308GTSI is a FERRARI....enough said.
Youre going to be spending money on any older Ferrari just to keep it running right. I hear the 430 is far less expensive to maintain, so it may be worth spemding the extra up front to get a 430. A 550 or 575 is likely to be a similar experience to driving a Vtte. A mid engined ferrari is a very different experience, these cars are very responsive and light on their feet, far more of a race car feel. But then you need twisty roads to appreciate them. If youre driving Highways and straights a V8 ferrari may feel weak. I am going to suggest you try a 512TR, forget about the raw numbers, although it still is a 180 plus car. The whole noise, looks experience and the way you will feel engaged in the process while driving it will be something you will never have in a vette. If you have ever ridden a great motorcycle, that feeling of the machine being an extention of your mind and body, able to project your will down the road, that is what a good ferrari will do, regardless of the spec numbers. I can say the same also of a Lotus and maybe a porche Gt3. A 512 TR will have torque that wont dissapoint, speed and grip well beyond what you can even insanely deploy on the road. It's fully depreciated so if you keep it the value will remain or rise and there is no PS so it will have a direct feeling and live steering which is part of the pleasure of these cars, plus it has a stick. If its raw numbers then you need 200k to beat a vette, if its an engaing driving experience, style drama and everything else there are many good ferrari choices. But really youre looking at a Quartz watch(vette) which kkeps great time and requires no maintanance, or a great mechanical watch(ferrari) which has a pleasure well beyond its ability to keep time.
One of the best car related posts Ive ever seen on FChat ! You need to greatly increase your budget to do that. Ferrari has never been the 'bang for your buck' car. Thats what the Corvette is for. You buy a Ferrari because you want the Ferrari experience, not because you are looking for the absolute best performance numbers
It is not my car but the Diablo is a 95VT with headers and Borla Exhaust, that I have over 36 hours of seat time in. Your buddy must have the slowest Diablo around....... Maybe his throttle linkage cable is broken, happened to a friend of mine's Diablo and accounted for a 50% drop in power. The Diablo is a 405whp+ and 450 torque car, a 330rwhp and 276 torque 360 should get destroyed, especially after 125mph. Heck I have seen a lightly modded 97 Diablo SV and Stock Diablo SE 30 walk a 2006 Lamborghini Murcielago
In a nut shell...no. The corvette has the one thing ferraris lack. Big torque. That comes with displacement. It's what makes the car feel fast, and gives you that feeling in your stomach when you hit the gas. They are completely different cars with a different focus. The vette is a brute, but they will beat the pants off pretty much any exotic in real world driving. Smoke the tires, hang it sideways without worry, be a complete idiot behind the wheel and it will come back for more. The Ferrari not so much. Haveing both is the way to go. Supermodel and the absolute monster in the sack. Best of both worlds.
But Ferrari's have something the Corvettes doesn't-- hair raising noise, power, and drama at the top end of the RPM range.
Why don't you try a Porsche Turbo? I can't sell my car for even $30k, but it runs circles around any Corvette short of a ZR1....add larger turbochargers for $7k, and even a ZR1 runs for cover. And yet its a very elegant car, fine leather and carbon fiber everywhere.
Agree, but you can't use it. When your in the power band of a Ferrari your already breaking the law. You will never beat the sound of a Ferrari a full song. But you will never beat a corvette stop light to stop light, even in an Enzo,in the real world of street racing. This I know from experiance. The cars are just different. You really can't comparing the 2.
I respectfully disagree with that comment. I have a fast 355. While I chose a C6 over a 550 for usability reasons, my C6 gives high grade sh7ts and kicks factor viserally, metaphorically and every other "ly" attachment I can think of. Plus, you can park it anywhere. Although my 355 IS my first choice in go fast or stylin ride, if I want to "Get the Lead Out" it's the C6 all the way. Anyone who owns both would say the same thing. It is Testosterone on wheels.
I agree with you. I am for the first time seriously thinking of getting the new Vette convertible next year. I just wish it was a twin cam.
Just get a 12, then you have Torque and high end, plus an older ferrari is fun at all speeds. But yes I agree a 458 can oly be fun to drive on a track or specificaly deserted road.
Yea right, in most situations from a standstill you are going to get some pretty big wheelspin from the Vette. Even a ZR1 is not touching an ENZO, it is not catching a 458 either.
Quite wrong my friend. The vette has very good suspension. Squat and go. That is if your not a goof with the throttle. A C6 Z06 will smack an Enzo into next week with an novice behind the wheel in a street race. Top end? Of course not. The Enzo will leave it for dead. But you can't compair them at all. Different cars designed for different purposes. The Enzo will go all day at 170 mph, where the vette will wither and die a slow an painful death. ZR1 with kill a 458.. Anytime, anywhere. Even on the track.
There is no way a stock Z06 is as fast as you claim. If a 2007 Z06 and a Z06 with Carbon package cannot win against a Diablo they do not have a chance against a 458 or Enzo. The 458 is basically 3.0 sec to 60 ALL the time and is a 11.0 1/4 mile car. A good driver in a Vette might get just under 4.0 sec to 60 on the street but it is still does not have the kind of acceleration that 458, Turbo S, and 2013 GTR have. Im not saying im a street racer but it is clear that on the streets a stock Z06 is not touching the 2013 GTR, Porsche Turbo S, LP 560, 458, etc.
For those keeping score... it only took the OP two pages to get us to start talking like a bunch of teenagers in study hall... As somebody so aptly pointed out, the car is only 1/2 the story. Since none of the cars mentioned are yet capable of driving themselves, a better driver in any of the aforementioned vehicles will outperform the other all day long. There are hardcore racers in Mazda Miatas who will beat me mercilessly on the track regardless of what supercar I bring... Instead of playing stat wars, lets get back to where this thing began... A corvette is a fantastic high performance car, limited only by its choice of interior materials IMHO. True, it is relatively crude in comparison to the wiz bang approach of the modern Ferrari, but it is still a proper sports car by any measure. If this guy sincerely is looking to get into a Ferrari, which it appears he is... I think the best advice we can give him is to just drive a few.. If he feels they are lacking in comparison to his Vette, well he just saved himself a bunch of money and heartache (when the service bills come ) A Ferrari is all about the experience, not the numbers... He will either embrace that or he will buy a Porsche
A perfect troll thread... this thread will probably live on for DAYS, WEEKS... maybe even months, in heady discussion to a guy who has 3 posts here and likely never will check this thread again, much less engage in the discussion! Classic troll tread! Jedi
Agree on sound and feel, while the scream of a F-car at 8500/9000 rpm is pretty much the cats meow for most, but if you have ever driven a LS7 at 7000 rpm on a track, with a nice exhaust, it is pretty close.... Different, different drive, but still pretty amazing What I found with Z's at the track is how much you could drive the car with the throttle, rotating the car with endless torque, and quite predictable set up correctly. Best bang in high horsepower is a clean low mile C5 Z for low twenties, IMHO. LS7 engine is pretty amazing - and that torque..... 458 and a carbon Z06 are pretty equal on a track, yes the 458 gets to 60 in 3 seconds, does not matter in roadracing... Have known someone who had a Scud, and said his Carbon Z was faster han his Scud and equal to 458 at Willow, Fontana, etc. Having a nice clean Z for daily driving and some track time, saving the F-car for special times, Is not a bad way to go. And as far as comfort, if you have never driven a Zr1 or a Vette with the mag shocks, you are in for surprise, best of both worlds. I will be looking at a 2014 Vette, to maybe add to the garage.
