noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :(
Lotus/Genji/Renault/Toleman have proven that a small team can have success in today's F1. That Williams can't compete is sadly on their own shoulders. Given their history its a real shame.
Seems like a bit of an exaggerated knee jerk reaction to the first race of a new year. The team made good progress, and the company has a growth path and good diversification. There's a lot of rubbish teams to be shown the door ahead of Williams.
I was speaking figuratively sorry if that didn't come through. I guess Williams will be hoping for sunny rather than cloudy stuff.
Any fan of sports cars, auto racing, and a lot of the readers of this thread will enjoy and learn a lot from this show by PW showing the historic Williams GP collections hall. Very well done in high def and full of interesting tidbits about F1 history. Very enjoyable. Williams is only second to Ferrari and McLaren when it comes to F1 history and accomplishment. Decades of victories, engineering excellence, and driver experiences. Piquet vs. Mansell at Silverstone, Mansell domination in 92, Prosts last championship in 93, Senna's death in 94, and fastest F1 car with Montoya. Yes this! Love the Iceman and his muted celebrations. Iceman and the Crashman do have the best livery : )
+1 I want Williams to remain. They are a good team and I hope they continue to show well. Mr Williams is a true inspiration to the sport!
Glad to be of service. In the 63 years of F1, 1950 being the inaugural year, Williams have raced for 44 seasons. Ferrari hold the record for the most Grands Prix victories, having won 219 times. McLaren are second with 182 wins, and Williams are third with 114 wins. Williams are also 3rd in Constructors championships with 9. On the facts they are 3rd, having done it during the most competitive times, I would say they have done better than the numbers suggest.
You rank them ahead of Lotus? Stat wise I can see it but in terms of what they've contributed I don't think that they are nearly as "Great".
If you mean the Team Lotus of 58-94 - yes I would put Lotus behind Williams, then Brabham and then Tyrrell. Other notable teams would be Bennetton, Renault, and even though I have not followed it recently you have to put Red Bull in there. (have lost interest because the tracks have gone to he11, the rules, the drivers, but mostly the cars are so dam ugly). Bringing back turbo's may help and maybe some rules changes might get rid of these dragster styled canoes. At least they have slicks again. If they want extreme race cars they should go all the way -- http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oMDUl8aCzLs/TL3V7tVv45I/AAAAAAAAA2M/eAL_m4EqIIE/s1600/RBRX1Front.jpg
I wouldn't count on Pastor for the long run now that Chavez kicked the bucket. On Williams it seems that Frank is loosing stamina and it reflects on the team. He has a remarkable character but I wonder how his health has played a role.
A little sarcasm on my point Fluque. I am a huge Rubens fan and thought Williams made an assinine decision to let him go to take Maldonado. MB
Hmmmm...... This one could run & run...... For sure, Patrick Head did some great cars for Williams. Occasionally, the very best. But, I don't believe he'll go down in history as the innovator that was Colin. For me at least; Ferrari, The boys from Woking, Lotus, Williams, Brabham, Tyrrell. After that, I dunno. Cheers, Ian
+1 However, they've gotta pay the bills somehow, and Rubens wasn't gonna do that. IIRC, he bought something like $50MM to the table (I posted a copy of Williams invoice to him way back, but search sucks - Can anyone find it? ) Cheers, Ian
Found it!..... Original discussion here; http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/f1/355690-williams-invoice-pastors-drive.html FWIW, UKP 29.4MM is ~$45MM right now..... Cheers, Ian Image Unavailable, Please Login
