So I've been staring at car trailers on the net and I'm very partial to the tilt trailer concept. You simply unlatch, step on the back, drive up, latch. No ramps.

But, it has occurred to me, this may not work with our Mondials, the engine is too far back for the teeter totter to work moving forward ... The manufacturers / dealers can't answer this question. All they can tell me is that Porsche owners have them. And backing the car on to it only reverses the problem.

Anyone have one or have insight on this dilemma?

Ted, how much more is it for the Hydraulic Quick Tilt version? That would be a sure bet but from what I can see by the tilt manual demo, it should work just fine for the Mondial !
Notice the pivot point is way upfront clearing the back wheels as you drive forward. I don't think it will be a problem for loading and off loading.

Just drive a bit further forward until it tilts, latch, and put it back to its proper position - the weight distribution is not that off. Alternatively, just back it up. Personally, I wouldn't have any concerns that this will work one way or another. As a last resort, can't you just drive your mondial to a distributor and do a test load?

...one more thing, the T is mid engine so its balanced quite well. I agree, the manual gravity tilt should work just fine but be great if you can try it at a dealership before committing to buying.
I wouldn't back it up for loading, just normal front end first should be fine and the best way.

It seems the mechanical (gravity tilt) trailer should work well with the Mondial's mid engine. The extra weight distribution to the rear of the car would only mean that the car would need to be driven farther forward on the trailer before pivoting would occur. It seems the main consideration is the length of the wheelbase of the car compared to the distance from the loading end of the ramp to the pivot point. As long as the rear wheels get on the trailer before the front wheels cross over the pivot point it should work effectively.

Thanks guys. You make some good points. I decided to go with this model for a host of reasons, mostly because its being built to my specs with a lot of little details to make it work better for the Mondial. This manufacturer is down in TX and there isn't a dealer near me to test it out, so I'm going on my calculations and your comments, that it should work.

I'm wondering if I should have the tongue box moved forward (towards jack) to give me a little more forward space to ensure the car will bring down the tilt. (?). Below is an example of the box in question. Mine will be body color but perhaps I should have it moved a little further. I've got time to decide because it will take 6 weeks to complete.

Btw, It's surprisingly inexpensive with a lot of useful features. It should tow the Mondial with ease.

have the trailer built to your needs / specs... trailer manufacturers will make adjustments on the axle location for proper weight distribution ( best towing )... get it correct and trailering is easy, get it wrong ( ordering generic ) it can be a nightmare... one size does NOT fit all... if you can't take the car to the trailer manufacturer, weigh the car at truck scales for front and rear axle weights and give them the wheel base so the manufacturer can properly locate how the weight is distributed... rule of thumb is not to have more than 10% of total weight ( car, trailer, stuff ) on the tongue... dual axle trailers like to be towed level with equal weight distribution on the axles... it is also good to know what hitch height of the tow vehicle will be... lots of little details
