4619 SA according to recent internet reports that went viral, Kun hee Lee, Chairman of Samsung corp , bought a stolen car, which shouldn't make him an owner... at least until the matter is cleared up... one would think that a transaction at that level of prevenance and value, the purchaser and legal team, one would assume wouldn't collectively have their heads where it don't shine :)

Bob Zambelli, in a PM, brought up the name of Carle Conway, which reminded me of another of my tales. Back in the 60's, one drove whatever one owned. There was no such thing as a garage queen; they were just used Ferraris. In SoCal we has a very active club, with plenty of socializing. Dan Ward was one of our most active members. It happened that he had 5575, the last GTO. Now I was doing a lot of trading, and always on the lookout for a "deal", so when people started getting interested in GTO's, I repeatedly asked Dan if he would consider selling. The answer was always a firm "no". So when Carle Conway (a true gentleman with whom I was acquainted) called to ask if Dan would consider selling, I was so tired of asking that I responded, "No, but here's his number if you want to try". Well, of course they ended up making a deal, without your chronicler in the middle! Oh well, win some and lose some. The moral is never put your hustle down. FYI, the price was probably around $10,000, but no longer sure.

Thanks for sharing another of your interesting stories, Ed. I wonder what the price was this year when it changed hands?

Any idea what year this might have been - even roughly? My random notes say Ward had it in 1966, and by 1976 it was with Conway, so sometime in between, most likely...

I don't have recent images, but I do have a question about this car at the TF in '62. Does anyone have a color image that clearly shows that the dark color was maroon and not black?

Quote from the April 2013 issue of "Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car":

"The Jaguar (XK-SS) has superior Dunlop disc brakes front and rear, unlike the GTO's four-wheel drum setup..."

And yes, they are referring to the Ferrari 250GTO, not the Pontiac GTO.
