348 Challenge preparation

even the glove box will receive attention, not important for the race track but it will be when judged in the coppa bella.

I was present at a coppa judging event when a one owner 348 did not make the grade due to a bad glove box strut.

to the credit of the owner he said it never worked from day one, he still didn't pass

the additional effort in finding new old stock items will produce a spectacular car when completed.

these belts will not be track legal but on the concourse field they will impress.

this photo was taken in 1994 at the mosport challenge race, the photo was taken with my 35mm camera.

almost twenty years later the car is still in Toronto.

I was photograghing the black gtsi, the 348 in the background was coincidental

If you look online the old patches are still available, these omp patches are for the challenge seats

I saved the expired OMP belts that came with the car. They have the old logo.

 

I think the 355's had three inch belts compared to the 2 inch on the 348's

 

Right. Mine are 3" belts.

 

Hmm . . . noble effort, but I think the two that I've installed over the past 5 yrs have lasted about 6 months each.

 

lets hope this strut isn't NOS, or I will need a pair of them

 

the dry sump tank was removed and refinished, the internal screen was also cleaned

one of the oil lines, it was removed, inspected and detailed. It was installed with replated clips

all isolation mounts are replaced due to age

while the engine work is underway, the interior is also receiving some attention.

the foam crumbles under the vinyl and the glue looses its adhesion.

the front brake duct hoses are also new old stock, it has taken twenty years to find a buyer

the front under car naca ducts, these panels usually have a short life span as they protrude quite low below the bumper.

Rocco, where did you get the naca ducts, or did they come with the car? They're virtually unobtainium.

the panels were under the car at one time, but some of them if not all came of during a race in 1995 at the montreal formula one grand prix

It took me near six months to find the front panels, the rear panel was also new old stock.

the two front bumper filler panels will also be replaced, one was deformed and one was missing all together

The front and rear springs cushions had seen beeter days so all were replace. The brake rotors were detailed and machined
