Reading about these $25K to $30k repairs seems to be more than a single here or there occurrence. Are these more common to others?

Are you looking for insight on the F430 or Scuderia? I think they each have their own individual "common issues" most of which are exclusive to the other.

For the Scuderia links you posted up, those are rare one-offs rather than common issues.

Had mine 5 months when it refused to go into third gear at 27K miles. Turned out the F1 system was fine, but there was excessive wear on the 3rd synchro assembly and a couple of bearings.

Relatively speaking not too bad a fix at 4500€ for the whole job including genuine parts of circa 1000€

Unfortunately the F1 system doesn't have the gentle touch of a human driver, it just trys to bang into gear irrespective of any resistance, it tries twice then bypasses the gear either up or down depending on engine revs.

400 miles later I got the dreaded double beeps and car refused to start gearbox light warning. Thankfully turned out to be bad engine bay closed sensor switch- only required 800 grit cleaning the sensor surface.

I haven't heard of many actual F1 system failures, usually the gearbox or one or more spurious sensors are the cause.

The genuine F parts are stupidly priced, example € 900 for each of the hydraulic hoses going from the actuatorpump solenoids to the gearbox. A local shop coulf make one for €100 or less.

The trick is to shop around and have a genuine independent guy you trust.

There was a regular 360 in my local shop with an F1 actuator failure just a few months ago. Dude was ticked off, but he had it repaired right away (Sorry, I don't recall the mileage, but it was a beautiful car in great cosmetic shape). I think just the parts were over $9K. Didn't ask what the final repair bill would be.

I was shown this car while my mechanic was trying to persuade me to get a manual 360 instead of an F1. It worked. lol.

    Cheers,

    George

Thats why manufacturers love the new wave of automatics. They market them so you feel like a race car driver, the OEM gets more money up front, they appeal to today's lazy drivers, and they get loads of money for repairs.

Not to mention demand for Ferraris soared when they came out with two pedal cars. Coincidence?

Well, how many people to you know who can drive a real manual?

The other day I met a young Italian gal getting into her Abarth (they are all manuals) in a parking lot. I asked her "How come you can drive a real manual?" She replied in her charming Italian accent, "I want to drive the car, not have it drive me."

    I am in love.

A lot actually. Even my wife can drive a manual. Then again, I don't hang with the minivan crowd.

Not to mention the selling price of each new F1 car went up $10 grand. Coincidence? I think not.

Wait... I've figured it out: lazy and distracted people like paying 10 grand more for a car so they can stay lazy and distracted.

It's been proven over and over again people will pay for convenience. Certainly wannabe Ferrari owners who couldn't or didn't want to drive a stick jumped at the chance to "be like Mike". Marketing tells them it really is a manual even though it shifts automatically. Haha.

Yes. This is why the F430 has a red button to start the car. You see, F430 owners are lazy and distracted so you just press the big red button and the car starts. Amazing. So simple. No key to turn. No more wrist aches.

Certainly conveniences like these justify the 50 grand price increase from that old fashion 360. It's no wonder the F430 was the most successful car they have ever made. Ferrari was dumb. They should have offered it as an option. People would pay extra for this modern time saver.

    Conveniences abound everywhere.

    Same old rant...
I have never owned an auto trans car. Maybe when Im old and frail.
I love my F1 MANUAL trans car.
It shifts quicker and consequentially I can drive it faster and be more engaged with both hands on the steering wheel.
The A button...? Dont know if it even works and dont care.
If you drive it in A, good for you.

Oh and I give the F1 death, the same way I drive my stick shifts. No failures if done properly with mechanical sympathy.
