Many on here are wanting Vettel to be suspended and are all upset about him disobeying team orders in Sunday's race. Besides your feelings about what Vettel did, is everyone forgetting that Webber tried to put Vettel into the wall?

I find that MUCH worse than Vettel trying to win the race, but nobody is mentioning that part.

If anything, I would suspend Webber for almost taking out his team mate, because if there would have been contact when Webber pushed Vettel over we wouldn't even be debating the issue.

    Thoughts?

Maybe it's been beaten to death in other threads this, but the way I see it is, the main problem is Vettel disobeying a team order to hold station.

Not the fact he was faster.

Now if Webber had been told he was not going to pass him, then that's where the problem is.

I didn't hear Christian Horner get on the radio and tell Weber to quit blocking.

I did hear Horner get on the radio and tell Vettel to quit acting like a petulant little 12 year old child.

Next time, if I am Weber, I punt him into the wall.

Yeah, that's logical. I guess it's better to have 0 cars finish the race than to have Vettel pass Webber and still finish 1-2.

I just saw that photo on ESPN F1's Facebook page...I wasn't even aware of that until just now. I think it's fair to say that while Seb initiated the issue with his insubordination, Webber's response is more egregious (although he didn't actually put him into the wall, and these are highly skilled drivers). I can see responding in the same manner. While Seb opined that the drivers respect each other, that is clearly not true. If Webber takes him out a la Massa v Ham, I bet you Seb would watch his steps a little more carefully.

RBR has a huge mess to clean up, at the end of the day.

Thank you. Someone with some common sense. Trying to take out your team mate is much worse than trying to pass him.

Bottom line; Nobody hit anything. No harm, no foul. Let 'em race, damnit!

It'll be very interesting to watch how this one plays out - Fer sure, Mark isn't going to listen to Christians orders very much for a while.

    Cheers,
    Ian

You break an agreement, face the consequences. Webber should've put him into the wall, some ol fashioned discipline never hurt anyone.

Right. Because scoring 0 points and writing off 2 cars is much better than disobeying team orders.

Easy for us armchair fools to talk, if Vettel's pass attempt had resulted in a collision I doubt you'd be singing the same tune.

They would only have collided because Webber tried to block him!!!!

    I agree.

Besides, Vettel's the one that decided to pass on the right when there wasn't much room to begin with. Vettel wanted to disobey team orders and take the lead, Webber had every right to do what he did.

Why do you think the FIA allows the driver to defend his position?

I've already mentioned this in the race thread. Had it been Schumacher that did that to Vettel instead of Webber, the F1 media and Ferrarichat.com forums would be going ape****.

They wouldn't have come close to a collision is Seb wasn't trying to pass.

Also, Mark made the one move he is allowed to make.

Agreed and this was my response after Hungary 2010. If Schumi wanted Rubens in the wall he would have been in the wall.

    From the article:

"Although Vettel apologised to the team and Webber for what happened - claiming his actions in defying orders were 'not deliberate' - Horner was not convinced.

"When asked why the team did not ask Vettel to relinquish the position to Webber in the closing stages to make up for his defiance, Horner said: "Do you honestly think that if we had told him 'slow down and give the place back', he would have given it back?

"There was no point. He had made it quite clear what his intention was by making the move. He knew what the communication was. He had had the communication. He chose to ignore it.

"He put his interest beyond what the team's position was. He was focused on those seven points difference between second and first place - which was wrong. He has accepted it was wrong."

    What is YOLO?

His exact words when he ignored team orders a couple of years ago:

"I just want to race until the end. Of course I ignored the team because I wanted to try and get a place. Seb was doing his best, I was doing my best. I wasn’t going to crash with anyone.”

I guess it's ok to ignore the team when it's just for 2nd but not when it's for the win?
