It is not my watch it is my mothers so this new opinion concerning morals and returning the watch if it is authentic is not my decision to make.

I understand everyone's skepticism and yes I probably did not go about this in the correct manner and for that I apologize but jeez cut a guy a break, I was only asking for advice not a bashing.

    355dreamer,
Well I thought of you and felt I had not given you enough grief, I'm a given not a taker :p.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

    Yep.

    It seems to me;

For many in this familiar place, it's a pastime.

This is all new to you.

Therefore, in a familiar place, you're honestly asking for guidance those who, as hobbyists and collectors are familiar with timepieces about your Mom's [Familiar] newly discovered stuff.

Ok I read every post in this thread and I am shaking my head at what I'm reading. The OP's mom found a Leopard Daytona at a garage sale. No pictures even with a cell phone. Solicited offers, still no pictures. Has a friend who is a jeweler and hasn't had the find of finds authenticated immediately, still no pictures. Had it finally authenticated then sold and still no pictures. My question is why bother posting this whole story at all? It it was in fact real am sold, it is a great story and would be far more interesting to read if it was fully detailed and included pictures.

Oh well good for her selling it I guess although I suspect this was written to end the thread and speculation

The post was made to stop all the bashing and disrespect by other members of the forum and the thread can now be closed.

Whoa whoa whoa, Gregg. I don't see where there was "bashing and disrespect" on here.

Here is the deal. You came on here in your very first post and asked the rest of us for offers to buy something from you (which in all honesty may be a violation of forum rules). You didn't come on here asking for advice or sharing. You came on here specifically asking for "SERIOUS inquiries" as you were looking for "serious buyers, serious offers." This became a thread for a business transaction the moment you did that. So anyone here who is a Rolex or watch enthusiast puts on their transaction hat. All of the questions and skepticism (and good wishes, mind you) that followed were all based on that.

When you come on here with things like this and the lack of info like that, you make it seem like you are playing the rest of your forum members as fools. There are no real pics of the watch, very little transparency (we still have not seen a picture of an actual watch), and the rest of it - you forgot to have it verified, you have a friend 5 houses away but have not bothered to take it to him yet, etc., ALL AFTER YOU ASKED US FOR OFFERS. Do you see why you would get the response you got?

I don't think anyone here wishes anything but the best for you and your mom but no one wants to feel like they've been punked. And this whole thread, including your one sentence, four word post, appears to be one big punking of the rest of us. So if you're going to say that anyone in this thread has been disrespectful, I would say it's been you.

Do you not see any of that?

    Agree.

As a long time watch collector, I've come to understand that people think even the cheapest, oldest, most beat up Rolex watches are worth thousands. There is NO WAY someone sold an authentic Leopard dial Daytona at a garage sale or tossed it in the trash.

    Who authenticated the watch?

If the watch was authenticated this morning how did you sell it so quickly?

If your friend has confirmed that the watch is fake nobody would have thought any less of you. In fact, you'd have endeared yourself to all who have read the thread by just saying the truth.

Your post was an advertisement as it was a solicitation for "serious offers". Technically you were required to post an ad in the Classified section, after which this thread would then be OK as a discussion about your sale item in an appropriate forum.

As there was a human interest side to this sale and you are a subscribed user, who has ad privileges, the mods let it slide rather than do the usual warning/move/delete. You got respect there.

A number of users wished you well and hoped for a good outcome. You got respect there.

A number of users cautioned you about the possibility of a fake and offered to provide their knowledge and critical eye if you would post whatever pictures you could here. You got respect there.

It was only after a 3-4 days of "bated breath" about your find by onlookers with peculiar deflections to their queries on your part, that users started wondering if YOU were being real, rather than if the watch was real or maybe a friendly 4/1 joke. Further, no one would have thought badly of you if it turned out to be a fake, it happens all the time. Then you "end" it by saying it was sold and then you say your post was made to stop the bashing and disrespect, implying that "authenticated and sold" may have been a post of convenience rather than fact.

    Who's been disrespecting who?

The mods believe that users posts speak for themselves and are the foundation of their reputations here. This thread might be forgotten in a few weeks or months, but the impression left will persist for longer.
