They sent samples to the guy doing the trimming. I looked at a few others from down here but the Scottish leather was far better. I used one of the higher grade leathers by Andrew Muirhead in the end. I'll stick up for the English any day of the week but I couldn't find leather down here that would touch it in terms of quality, texture, feel etc. Hides were more than I could pay down here (they were about double) but as far as I'm concerned it was money well spent.
Regarding coming for a look, would be great to meet up sometime. Besides, depending on how my future pans out who knows, I may be looking to sell my 348 just when you're looking to buy yours. I'd challenge you to find one in better nick. All of that said, if I was to ever sell her, there'll be the rigorous interviews and acceptance procedure that the next owner would have to pass.
An absolutely fantastic job. Have always loved the red/cream combo in a number of different models however your is simply sensational ! Well done ! Where did you get the seatbealt covers from ? Would love a set for my own 348ts
Good job Pete, it must be pretty anazing to sit in a 348 that has a "new" car smelll? As far as originality is concerned I think you have walked a fine line quite nicely, it is easy to overdo this stuff but you haven't.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a gorgeous combination of colors and attention to detail. Congrats on a job well done! Now please remove the entiire interior, package it carefully and mail it to me Enjoy now!- John
Hi Red, thanks for the comments. Re the seat belt covers they were thrown in by the shop as a freebee when they were doing some work on my car, they're just made of a soft breathable fabric with a foam inside. I interchange them for some plain black ones - the black to look classy, the red with cavallino to look a bit more racey, it's amazing what a difference it makes to the look depending on which set I've got in. PM me your address and I'll see if I can get hold of a set for you. These are the black, cost £10 from Halfords (highstreet auto parts place) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Daz. You're right, the smell of all that new leather is fantastic. My aim was to just lift the interior a bit but not go away from a classic Italian look - I wanted it to look classy and also look the car's age to a certain extent, didn't really want it to look like it didn't go with the car. Mine has the black sills so still retains a slightly more classic look. With my car I have changed a lot, but nothing to take it too far away from still being like a classic Ferrari to me. I've got a custom supersport exhaust which makes it sound more like a Ferrari track car than a standard 348, actually pops and cracks more like she thinks she's an F40 but I like the raw sound you heard on the cars all the way back to the earliest models. I've got Yoshi shields on her - not standard and only the mighty GTC 'should' have them, but personally I like them. I've got a colour coded roof as I like the lines of the TB but like the open air option so feel a colour coded roof gives the best of both worlds (to me at least). I've also got a foldable soft top so I don't need to worry about scratching the red roof which can be a reason not to get it painted. All in all, my car is now how I wanted her - she is done. Got to say, all the extras haven't really hurt her too much - I asked a main dealer for a valuation and they put her right at the top of the current market. More than that they asked if I'd consider parting with her - wasn't a passing comment, I got a letter asking if I'd like to talk about it. She is in pretty good nick now, though. Ok so now you have her the way you want her....go drive it, hard and fast......and why not show her off also? Not surprised the dealer has put your car atop the market, she looks very sweet!!
Cheers Daz. There is one reason I'm not driving her, though. It's ******* snowing outside again!!!!! If I hear you laughing, we'll be having words ..........
I've always liked the look of the 348 with either black or colour sills, but lately I've really been getting a strong preference for the black sills. I think it really places the car in its period in history and looks great. It visually breaks up the bodywork a bit and the coloured section looks all the more sleek for it. All the best, Andrew.
Got to agree. Was chatting to a Boxer owner on here that said none of the cars made in the 80's or 90's had attractive lines. I just posted this......... Image Unavailable, Please Login
